I love it. I know this isn't news to anyone, but it's well worth it. To be honest, I feel like this is the correct size the camera should have been to begin with.

Absolutely love it. The build quality is just like the rest of the D7000, solid and well built.

And, if you have Amazon Prime, you can have it shipped to you overnight for just $4

Just got it and hooked it up....wow. Feels like a different camera. Not that there was anything wrong with it before, it just feels beefier.
Looking forward trying out the side controls tomorrow on some shots.

Let me know if you get dinged a "brokerage fee".

My experience with the various couriers has not been great whereas USPS has always been good. Unfortunately neither B&H or Adorama offers USPS. And only B&H offers the Purolater ground option, otherwise I was stunned to see shipping costs are $30-$56 (Adormas were higher)! That erases any price advantage.

IIRC it was these high shipping costs that stopped me from purchasing in the US (which I had been doing on occasion). I can't seem to find any US retailers that will use USPS.

Ok my MB-D11 is just in from B&H NY. Total cost to ship $9.02 Duties and taxes to Winnipeg Manitoba $21.36 (I did pick up an aditional $13.95 component), and the MB-D11 was 239.95(USD)

Ordered on 2/21/11 arrived 2/24/11

So im happy.

Now I just have to wait for my D7000 to return from service in Toronto to get these two together!

Steve - all-in, it's cheaper at home in Canada. USPS is great from the U.S., but UPS has turned into a broker's fee, duty, PST/GST/HST nightmare. I swore off UPS shipping from the U.S. more than two years ago. U.S. online retailers really need to understand how poorly they're being served when they use UPS to ship outside the U.S. It is awful. FedEx is at least holding the line. USPS/Canada Post all the way.

Redd Ox shipped a travel bag to me pre-paid - customs/duties, brokerage fee, everything. UPS arrived at my door and handed me an invoice for $95 anyway! I wasted half an hour waiting while the delivery driver called his dispatch, then talked to the traffic manager, then talked to a supervisor who - grudgingly - waived the invoice. Then I still received the same invoice in the mail a week later, whereupon I spent another 45 minutes of my time on the phone with UPS to sort it out. My rep at Redd Ox was furious at UPS after receiving my brief email account of the minor mess. UPS appeared to have tried to double-dip. If it was an isolated incident, I wouldn't even mention it, but these allegedly (by UPS) inadvertent double-dip attempts occur far too often for comfort.

Many, many problems with UPS.

There isn't anything offered by B&H or Adorama that can't also be purchased at competitive prices from Vistek, The Camera Store, Camera Canada or Henry's in-store or online.

The MB-D11 is great - well built, Nikon quality - as long as you ignore the terrible joystick. Try using it with gloves (even thin, shooting gloves) - anything other than bare fingers. Meh, IMO.

I have the MB-D11 and use it on my D7000, but do the thumb-stretch to reach the main multi-selector on the body rather than try to use the joystick thingy on the grip.

I also got it shortly after I bought the camera. It is great, but I was disappointed to find out it did not increase the fps above 6. I was hoping to get it up to 8fps for sports. Other than that, I have put it on and I doubt it will ever come off.

There are times when I may purchase an item from a particular source just out of principle, now that's just me keep in mind. Henry's has the grip for 299.99 + $37 in tax +10 shipping. Now with the dollar being near equal I have to ask myself wether that's fair?
I buy a lot from Henry's (over $2k in the last yr) but I like to reward sellers that make an effort for my business every once in a while.

IMHO.

I concur. Walk into Henry's, ask for the MB-D11 and insist on a discount. I do, and I get the discount. You should too.

Your right, perhaps I should have given Henry's a chance that way, may have split the difference or better.

Mostly Digital in London, Ontario - an excellent dealer - is selling the grip for $265. Don's Photo and Henry's in Winnipeg will both beat the price, but you've got to show 'em.

That's a little disappointing to hear as well. I'm assuming you tested it with the 8 AA batteries? Thanks.

I have to ask a question that I hope won't offend, but why would you think that adding more power would increase the maximum fps of the camera?

That frame rate should be more dependent on the sensor's capabilities, cpu speed, bus structure, buffer memory speed, programming, etc. If you could somehow overclock the cpu and the bus, memory were able to handle a faster transfer, then you might have a shot at faster fps.

On other Nikon cameras does the fps rate increase above the specified rate if you add more power? The comment about being disappointed leads me to believe this does happen.

For me, at least, the decision to finally get the grip for my D7K wasn't about "adding more power", but adding "power flexibility" and the fact that it improves the handling (stability) of the camera in certain situations. Those are the 2 primary reasons for getting the grip.

On the D300S (and other Nikons), for example, the grip does actually increase the frame rate, which would be another reason to get one for that camera - but it doesn't do that for the D7K.

Enjoy!

I think they restricted the fps because of the smaller internal buffer. There's a pinned post, "Buffer size and settings", at the top of this forum that details the fps under different settings, etc.

Not sure if you've already seen it, but it's a good read.

Good luck with your new MB-D11.
