AF finetune and AI-ring on the D7000?

The D7000 seems to have AF finetune. Does anyone know if the tuning can be done for different focal lengths of a zoom lens (like on the Olympus E-30)? And does it have an AI-indexing ring? Thanks!

Last night I peered through the Nikon site specifically searching to see if the new cam has AF Fine Tune. I eventually got tired and gave up the search. Can anyone please point me to a reference indicating the camera does indeed have it? This would be VERY important to me if the camera has it or not.

Ad, to-date, no AF Fine Tune capability exists within Nikon cameras to have multiple tune values for multiple focal lengths on a single zoom lens. People therefore take different approaches, one is to use maxium focal length for the tuning exercise. Another approach is take the most important focal length and tune for that focal length.

There is nothing stopping one from testing and coming up with different values for different focal lengths on the same zoom lens, but you would have to enter those in at time of shooting.

Thanks. You're right, you could do that. The thought has crossed my mind, but I find it easier to manual-focus my Tokina 11-16mm. MF is quicker than dialling in a different value for AF fine tune...

In these specs AF finetuning is mentioned: http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imaging/lineup/digitalcamera/slr/d7000/spec.htm

It is note din the "Autofocus" row:

"Autofocus* • 39 area (9 cross type) TTL phase detection with AF fine tuning*
• Nikon Multi-CAM 4800DX focus module
• Detection range: EV -1 to +19 (ISO 100 equivalent, at normal temperature)
• Manual focus , Electronic range finding supported"

On page 246 of the D7000 manual, it instructs how to fine tune CPU lenses. There is no reference for manual focus lenses.

I guess your maximum aperture method is better than tweaking the machine.
