It is that time again — NikoniansPress/Rocky Nook author Darrell Young is preparing his latest book — Mastering the Nikon D7100

Click on image to view larger version

All of Darrell's books in the Mastering the Nikon DSLR series have included images provided by our members and he wants to continue the tradition with the upcoming Mastering the Nikon D7100. The submitted images must be in VERTICAL (portrait) format because they are used to start each chapter in the book.

Basically, to keep from having to list an enormous number of things, the bottom line is we want the image you submit to show what a skilled photographer can do with a Nikon D7100. It needs to have a certain “wow” factor so that it doesn’t appear to be a snapshot.

All members who have a vertical image included in the book will receive a free copy of Mastering the Nikon D7100 and be listed in a special Credits for Chapter Opening Images section of the book, with information on the tech specs (ISO, lens, aperture, shutter speed, shooting conditions, and a paragraph telling about the picture).

Each photographer selected will also have a credit inserted beneath the submitted picture at its location in the book.

It all starts here in this discussion thread. Post your best shots here (no need to be huge as long as they are taken with a D7100). The publication team will review the submitted VERTICAL images before the book goes to print and will contact members whose image has been accepted for publication in Mastering the Nikon D7100. At that time formatting instructions will be given for the final submission.

Horizontal images cannot be accepted because they do not fit the vertical format of the book.

Here are some of subjects that have a high level of interest for possible publication:

--Cute child’s face with an uncluttered background, prefer shallow depth of field.
--Wildlife (action or static. We always like to have a tracked subject for the chapter on AF)
--Pet animal closeups without distracting elements
--Beautiful woman shot (PG rated)
--Handsome man shot (PG rated)
--Sports (group action)
--Sports (action closeup)
--Motorsports (cycle, car, airplane, etc.)
--Closeups or macro (well executed of an interesting subject)
--Still life (interesting arrangements of objects)
--Landscapes and nature scenic (beauty in nature)

The Nikonians editorial team thanks you in advance for your submissions.
---Tom

I'd love to contribute, here's two images that were both taken with a newly purchased Nikon D7100 you can use. Let me know if you need high res images if chosen.

I'm seeing some very beautiful images here in these submissions. Excellent work! I'm sure that several of these will be in the book. The editorial team is impressed!

We are coming down to the wire now. The book is about to go into graphical layout in a few days and we will need images soon. If you have made a submission, make sure that your contact information is up to date in your profile so that the NikoniansPress editorial team can contact you. Once contacted, it is important to get the original images within a day or two at the most.

We appreciate your fine work! The Nikon D7100 HD-SLR in the hands of a skilled photographer is quite a powerful image machine. If you have more vertical images that make people say "wow!", please submit them as soon as possible. Thank you!

Submitting these four pictures that I took less than three weeks ago while on my annual fly fishing trip with guys, in the interior of British Columbia.

I'm learning each and every time I pick up my camera. Photography has only been part of my life for just over a year now. My regret is that I didn't get into this hobby sooner. If it wasn't for my youngest daughter needing a DSLR for school projects, I would have over looked this form of enjoyment. I bought her a Canon T3i and played around with it and got hooked.

I now have owned the D7100 since the end of March. It's a fine piece of equipment and a pleasure to have.

Taken on the 23rd.of June, prior to the Delta Day parade making it's way up to our location. It gave me the impression when I looked at it quickly that the young red headed girl had large hands and legs.

1/160s f/9 with an ISO of 160. Overcast with light showers threatening.

always enjoy having their photos taken. They each are showing

Hi,

I've attached two D7100 shots for possible inclusion in the Wildlife section of the D7100 book. The details of them are as follows:

Yellow-headed Blackbird:

Place taken: Frank Lake, Alberta
Date: May 19/13
ISO: 800
Aperture: f/8
Shutter Speed: 1/800 sec.
Lens: 80-400mm with 1.4 teleconverter and 1.3X crop mode (1100mm eff.)

Though my subject was not that close, I was able to get a significant amount of detail by employing a 1.4 teleconverter on my 80-400 lens. I took advantage of the 1.3 crop mode also, since I wanted to better isolate the bird. The male Yellow-headed Blackbirds at Frank Lake are quite abundant in May. They come to the lake before the females and establish a territory. The photo shows a male confidently surveying his domain in the marsh grass. This bird had evidently just been down to the water, since his feathers still appear wet.

Barn Swallow:

Place taken: Frank Lake, Alberta
Date: June 10/13
ISO: 1000
Aperture: f/5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/8000 sec.
Lens: 70-300mm with 1.3X crop mode (500mm eff.)

These birds fly so swiftly and erratically that it is mostly a matter of luck as to whether one obtains a good shot. If one is persistent, and has appropriate settings, sometimes one is rewarded with a decent image. My photo shows one of the Barn Swallows at Frank Lake swooping out over a pond, adjacent to the observation blind. They are amazing flyers and are able to capture many insects as they maneuver over the water.

I'm looking forward to reading the book!

I am attaching a few motorsport photo taken with my D7100 last month. They are horizonal, so it would not be qualified for the D7100 book. Unforunately almost all of my collection for motorsport is horizontal. Anyhow, it is mainly for sharing, as I did not see any posting so far for the motorsports catagory.

Photo 1 and 2 : D7100 with 300mm F2.8
Photo 3 and 4 : D7100 with 70-200mm F2.8

Cheers.

Two more photos from my motorsport collection under D7100.
Both were taken under D7100 with 17-55mm F2.8 DX Lens. I love this lens.

Cheers,
