"Who is eligible for a free upgrade to the Nik Collection by Google?

Any customer who currently owns one or more of the following Photoshop, Lightroom, or Aperture plug-ins will be eligible for a free upgrade to the Nik Collection:
•Color Efex Pro 3.0 Complete, Select, or Standard (Note: Color Efex Pro 3.0 Complete, Select, or Standard for Capture NX 2 or Paint Shop Pro is not eligible)
•Color Efex Pro 4 Complete or Select (Note: Color Efex Pro 4 Select for Wacom is not eligible)
•Dfine 2.0
•HDR Efex Pro
•HDR Efex Pro 2
•Sharpener Pro 3.0
•Silver Efex Pro
•Silver Efex Pro 2
•Viveza 2

I own one or more of the eligible products above, but I have not received my free upgrade. How do I receive it?

Please visit the product key registration page to enter your keys and check eligibility to receive the free upgrade."

This is certainly good news for those of us concerned with the long term viability of the Nik software products.

That's great. I own a couple of those products so it will be nice to get everything else for free.

onOne Software is selling their well-regarded complete suite for $149 at the moment as well to compete.

I am a long time Nik customer and did receive that email today. My first reaction was to question whether it was true (and not a scam).

So, to be doubly sure, is this legit?

Thanks

I downloaded the file from the email, but Windows doesn't know how to open it.

This is the file name; NikCollection_1.007_22671_win_full

Windows properties says it opens with Windows shell commor.

Any ideas?

GOT IT! File did not have an extension. I renamed with .exe extension and the installer launched.

Since I get them in a different way, I'm not sure if it's described, but the plug-ins will now update automatically when Google updates them. You shouldn't have to download future updates manually.

You are incorrect about CEP 3.0 for CNX2 not being eligible, it is! I got my entire package this morning and all I own is the CEP 3.0 for CNX2. When you download the Windows package, there is a glitch in that the download does not label itself as an .exe file. and thus will not open. If you add the .exe extension and then double click it will install the plug ins into any Photoshop or Lightroom versions that you have,

This does appear to be a good sign for the continuation of the product. That said, I'd still like to know Google's plan. With the steep reduction in price, it is hard to beleive that in and of itself, this can be a profitable product going forward. Nik used to charge close to this for a single product upgrade.

By the way, as a previous purchaser and current owner of an up to date full Nik Collection I think I should at least get a free Google T-shirt or something.

Keep in mind that the products in that suite are existing products, with much or all of the R&D costs recouped. If they increase the numbers of users of the current products, there are a larger number of people who may be likely to purchase a future upgrade.

That would certainly be nice if they could expand the user base to that extent. We shall see. The $149 price tag is definetly in the software sweet spot.

I've considered and wanted these for several years and tonight I finally bought the bundle for $149. That simply cannot be beat for such powerful tools and a high quality product.

Now I just need to go buy LR4 to replace my PSE 10.

Is this pricing for a limited time (couple of weeks) or does anyone know if it will stick around for a while? I'm interested in the product for the current deal, but probably not if it goes back to it's original price. Need to budget for it...

I tried sending an email or getting a callback with their 'contact us' link, but neither worked...

Thanks,

After reading about the gmail spam problem in this discussion, I found the message from Nik in my spam folder. Unfortunately, the link to begin the download was broken (in fact, all the links were broken).

Is there a URL where I can do the download manually? I'd be quite happy to enter my product keys.

Thanks!

A quick catch-up. Nik (Google) support responded very quickly to my email, and gave me the free upgrade. Many thanks to them, and the support from members here. I use ColorEfex quite a lot (I like the detail enhancer filter), and looking forward to trying the other plug-ins in the set.

I contacted Nik and gave then my product ID# for Color Efex Pro 4.0 which I purchased probably five years ago and within two days the sent me a download link for Nik Complete for free. I paid over $400.00 for Nik Complete for Lightroom three years ago, so this was a better deal.

I got my free update, but HDR EFEX Pro 2 was not included. Has this happened to others?

It should include HDR Efex Pro 2 even if you didn't own it already. I owned only CEP3 & Dfine and I still got the free bundle which included HDR Efex Pro 2.

I just downloaded the full Nik Collection for $126.65 using the coupon code "hdrsoftware15" on the niksoftware.com site.

I also found that the entire suite, including Dfine 2, works fine in Windows 8 as a plugin to Photoshop CS6. As a result, they must have fixed the problems I found on the internet when determining whether to buy it.

Noes installing the "Googleized" version of the Nik Collection overwrite any and all existing installations of Nik software (Except for the CNX version of ColorEfex)?

It overwrites the current versions of the plug-ins. If you still have prior versions (first gen HDR Efex, first gen Silver Efex, etc.), they'll stay as is.

>Yes, I got the email on Monday. It came from this address
><nikcollection-noreply@mailus.niksoftware.com>.

Thanks for posting this email address!!!! Can you believe nearly a year later, having recently bought CC, I can finally make use of this. But I was searching for the email and not coming up with it when lo and behold your specific post allowed me to find, download, and install!

Wowee after all these years of GREATLY admiring it I now have Silver efex, HDR efex, not to mention the NR and USM apps, Viveza, and Analog efex tools too!

(I am a long-time Color efex user with Capture NX2 and that's how I qualified for the whole suite).

Best regards, SteveK
