Going to NYC in a few days.
Being both the D5100 and the 55-300mm lens consumer products, would I have any trouble getting in with them along with my Lowepro Nova 180 bag (with my Nikkor 35mm 1.8 inside of it also)?

Or should I forget about it and take just my iPhone 4?

First time in any sports event in the US so It would be nice to have the D5100 and the zoom lens with me for better pics.

Thanks for any help.

At a quick glance, the Yankees have a nice policy.

Hi Joseph. Thanks for the link.

So I assume my consumer 55-300 lens wouldn't interfere with the game and fellow guests right? It has only 4.8" in length.
And of course neither my 18-55 and 35mm.

Or this depends on the judgment (or the good or bad day) of the person at the gate and the security?

The other possibility is to take my all-in-one Tamron 18-270.

Or as I said before, I should just forget about it and take my iPhone 4.

Take it with you I was to a yankees game and had no problem. I took my 55-300. Just be sure whatever bag you have it in you take pretty much everything out of it because they search it good. Thinkgs like a pocket knife etc they frown upon.

It's a lot longer than that at 300mm, but as long as you are courteous, there won't be any problems. The gate staff are not photographers, and they can't tell a 12-24 from a 500mm if they are the same size. I literally have a 12-24 and 500mm that are almost the same size. The 500mm has been into Turner Field and just about every other park I've been to. It looks like a fat version of a kit lens, actually.

I've taken my 70-200mm and either a D3s or D300s to Yankee Stadium. No hassles from stadium staff. Just don't conk the person in front of you on the head!

If I had one.

Of course I'm going to stop by at B&H but I don't think I'll buy a tele converter now.
I'd like to have one though sometime.

But with my already slow 55-300 a tele converter would worst things even more I think.
Will have to use a pretty high ISO to slow the shutter down.

I'm also thinking of buying a Raynox DCR 250 to play around with pseudo macro.

Sure. 4.8" in the widest position. The position I'll show the gate person.

I think the 55-300mm is small enough not to got the attention of the security.
It's not (and don't look like) a professional tele photo.
If I had a 70-200 2.8 or something like that would be a no no.
But with this consumer 55-300 lens and based on the informations of the site and the things you guys are telling me I think it would be OK.

Well, I just have to decide to take the risk.

Still thinking about it. 65% chance I just carry my iPhone 4 and forget about it.

hehehe...
Good advice.

Wow! A D3s and the 70-200 and hassle free at the gate?
Good news.

I would not haul a lot of equipment or a huge lens in there.
But, I would take my D5100 and 28-300 lens.
I might also try to sneak a small MonoPod.
My primary reason would be to see the game better.
My EyeBulbs are growing old and dim.
With extra batteries, I could use the LiveView to zoom in on the action.

Okay.

I think I'll bring my D5100 and the 55-300.

The one thing that's worrying me now is that some people said the gate staff are also not allowing DSLRs that takes videos.
Do you guys think this would be a problem?

Pretty soon every pocket camera and cellphone will also take movies.

They will have to let everything except big lens and TriPods in or give up the game. The Spectators pay the bills.

So.
Went to the game (really fun and great hot dog!) and... didn't bring my cam.
For two reasons.
1. Didn't want to have any trouble getting in.
2. It was unbelievably hot!
One of the hottest days in NYC in decades!
(I'm an extreme traveller. Got the last christmas blizzard and now this heat!)

By the way, left my cam at the hotel for the same reason many days.
Too hot to carry my bag and 3 lenses (18-55, 35, 55-300) around.

But I saw people with DSLR and long lenses there. Not many but some.

Next time will bring it.
Never in july again though
