I am interested in getting a rubber eye cup for my D700, have found a DK-18 and a DK-19. There is about $15.00 difference in the two prices. Not too bad either way, but I wasn't sure which fits the D700, or if it matters at all? Thanks for your assistance on this.

The DK-18 is an adapter for attaching the DG-2 magnifying eyepiece. You want the DK-19.

D19. The reviews on a certain Ny major dealer's website are skewed: some say it falls off no matter what, so say it does not. What's the trick to securing it? There is one post about pushing the outer ring to secure the eyecup.

Don't know. I just followed the installation instructions. Mine have never fallen off.

Having read of trouble people had experienced with it falling off, I carefully followed the instructions, and like Mick, have never had it fall off. I would highly recommend it.

Thanks for the comments. I also read that the eye cup pushes the eye back about 3 cm from where it would otherwise be (is this true?), and that this can be an issue when wearing glasses. I just made a card 3 cm long & placed it between the body next to the eyepiece and the eyeglasses. It appear to lose a lot of the image corners from the view, as others have commented. Normally I wear a very broadbrimmed hat to keep the glare out. When i have an SB-600 on the hot shoe, the hat gets pushed away & there is glare, so i was thinking about the eye cup. Perhaps not good with glasses.

So I took the glasses off, to see if the diopter adjustment could compensate for the increased distance. No. Whether a diopter accessory would help, I don't know. I would need to consult my optician. Any opticians out there? (The condition is mainly presbyopia.)

I wear glasses and have no problems seeing into the corners of the viewfinder. With glasses you don't cut out as much extraneous light as you get without them but it is still an improvement over having no eyecup

I've used this eye cup on this camera, had one on each of my D2X's and one on an old F5 I used have - I've never had one fall off. I've had mine on my D700 for a while now and put it in and out of my pelican case without it ever falling off... it 'folds' down, but never has come off.

I'll get one on my next camera too if it has the same type eye piece...

Perhaps the people who lose them don't mount them correctly. There was a post about pushing hard on a ring on the rubber piece.

I have an eyecup on each and all of my cameras, including the film ones.
It also provides an extra point of contact for sturdier shooting, whether handholding or from a tripod.
DK-19 is the one you need as previously mentioned.
You can see it here at Nikon USA

Have a great time :-)

I got the DK-19 and thanks to the comments here, took great care in following the installation instructions that came with the eyecup and used it at a shoot last night. Glad I got it, and only wish I had gotten one long before now. Thanks again for the the support and help I received here on this great forum.
