Just to accommodate the new 800mm lens I believe and applies to D300 too.

Does anyone know if Nikon made any other improvements besides adding support for the 800mm?

I did read someone post that he felt the AF was quicker but I have also read a post that AF was slower!?!?

The only listed change was for the 800. For many, myself included, we will see changes from the last update (which I missed...)

My update was successful and about as difficult as falling of a log. Then this wasnt my first rodeo. If you havent done an update before, follow the detailed instructions and remember that the root directory on your CF is 'DCIM'.

Lyle,

With all respect, but your instructions are slightly misleading.

DCIM is NOT a root directory, it is a directory (= folder) that is located in the root directory.
Therefore you have to copy the firmware file into the root directory (to the same place as the DCIM directory). If you copy the FW file into DCIM directory, D700 will not recognize the software.

It is possible that you had issues because you copied the file into the DCIM directory.

Kind regards,

Niko

Me, I'm sitting this one out... I'm up to date otherwise. And, I'll never buy an 800mm lens. Any talk about an increase in focal speed is anecdotal until testing is done and the numbers are known.

Just my thoughts...

Went to download and the download button for Windows was in Spanish. The download button for the MAC was in English. How do I download in English? There is no way that I could figure out how to switch to English.

thanks

It is just the button text that is in Spanish. The firmware is in English.

After installing the new firmware, I read Darrell's Picture Controls article from the home page.

Did the firmware upgrade discard my personally loaded picture controls? Or did I long ago forget to load them after downloading them?
