Cameta is a legitimate U.S. dealer. Check them out yourself at www.resellerratings.com the web site of the Better Business Bureau.

They will, however, call you to "confirm" your order and will try really hard to sell you a bunch of accessories and an extended warranty.

Thank you for all the replies. Ebay has a 10%, up to $100 discount available which will take the price down to $2,469.00 if I buy through Cameta's Ebay storefront. I will now "pull the trigger". I will post my experience as to how it goes.

The best way to kill those hours is go out and shoot with your current gear.

By the time I'm in your shoes, I'll develop some of my film backlog.

Take care!

Please do post the results of your buying experience with Cameta. I thought $2659 was a good deal via BuyDig.com, but $2469 (I got the same discount code from ebay)... Wow!

It is nice to know that Cameta is a Nikon Authorized Dealer (confirmed via NikonUSA). I just wonder if AMEX will double the warranty on the camera, if I use them for the funding on my PayPal account?

Thanks for the heads up!

That auction is for an "imported" model (aka grey market), not one with a USA warranty.

The Cameta auction specifically says USA model, not imported.

Well NAS got the better of me...

I pulled the trigger on the D700 from Cameta. With S/H (and eBay coupon) it came to $2487.95.

What's nice is that I convinced my wife to let me keep our D300, and my grip and Kirk L-bracket will work on both. So they will compliment each other well. D300 for length, and D700 for everything else.

Now it's just the waiting game.

Well, I pulled the trigger at 12:11 pm, 10-20-08
The price was $2,569.99 + $18.00 shipping.
I need to complete the order by paying with PayPal from an email Cameta is to send me. At that time I should be able to enter the discount code to receive the $100 off, as per the Ebay coupon, good when paying through PayPal.

I will keep this thread posted.

The coupon would not work. The total was $2,862.90, which includes a Mack 3 year all inclusive warranty.
I will now be awaiting the camera!

I got mine at Sigma4less. It was a good transaction - US Model.

I thought the Mack warranty was on gray market cams.

How did you do it using the Ebay coupon. When I went to pay, a window appeared saying i can't use that coupon with Cameta's checkout??

I did it via one of Cameta's auctions. When I completed the Buy It Now portion, I used the Pay Now button. When I was paying via PayPal, there was a field to enter the coupon code. Everything went fine, and I got the $100 discount.

You might want to make sure that you eBay email address is the same as your PayPal address (a stipulation of the coupon).

HTH, and good luck.

At Amazon, you can apply for their credit card and then get it in a 12-month interest-free payment plan if you qualify.

For future reference...

Congratulations anyway!

Just bought the D700 from Berger Bros for $2399 plus $28.00 shipping. No tax to MD. Looked at the Costco deal but tax made it a no go... Crutchfield is on back order...

I just checked BB's site, and they have it listed for $2499 (after $300 instant rebate). If you got it for $2399, you got an even better deal.
