I received a used D700 body in excellent condition, but the rea LCD monitor doesn't work, just shows horizontal and vertical lines. Anybody seen this before? I am waiting to hear from the seller. THanbking in advance for any helpful information.

I wouldn't call it "excellent" with a monitor like that. What happens when you take a picture? Can you see it?

I meant excellent physical condition... Pictures get saved on the CF card which I can view on my computer, but all the monitor displays in menu mode or after a picture is taken is shown on the pic... I'm not stuck with it, the seller will take it back and refund me. I've just never seen this happen before... I've had a D70s, D200 and my present D300.

I guess the question in my mind is why would you want this camera? If you can get your money back, couldn't you get a different D700 with an operational screen?

Find out the cost from Nikon to fix it. If you can get a partial refund, the D700 repaired by Nikon will be as good as new. It might be a bargain if you can get most of your money back.

There are many 'photographs of beautiful objects' but not so many 'beautiful photographs of objects'.

I thought it was fully functional, the seller is surprised it isn't, he's a good guy, he will refund me as soon as he gets it back. No problem. The question is what happened in transit?

I called Nikon Canada tech support, they said it would probably cost $350-$450 to repair with 6 month warranty. They wouldn'tsay whether they had seen this problem happen before. I didn't think to ask for a partial refund because by that time the seller did not hesitate to fully refund me. DOH!
