I have held a couple of D700's as well as my own and when tipping the camera up and down thers a small clicking/rattle sound, Nikon says don't know. Could it be the sensor/switch/?? that tells the camera if it's in vertical or horiz mode. Any ideas or answers? My D300 doesnt do it.

It does this with or without a lens attached.

Try raising the flash and see if the noise goes away. My D300 makes a noise like you describe that resolves with the flash raised.

Mystery solved -- thank you --

Hate to be so critical but a new camera that rattles is spooky
