My first images using this incredible camera are posted at http://www.nsapc.com/D700. I used Bill Claff's hack to open the raw files in Lightroom and enhanced a few with slight Clarity and Vibrance increase. I varied the shooting regimen with back lighting, spot metering, continuous shooting and single servo and continuous servo AF. Everything worked flawlessly. I have shot nearly identical scenes with a D300 and those from today equal or surpass them in many respects.

Outstanding pix, and some shot in challenging conditions. I've read a few concerns about the AF performance of the D700, but these pix seem to indicate the AF system is very accurate, even with fast moving subjects. Thanks for sharing the pix. My D700 should arrive soon & I will also be posting text pix.

NormS,

Great shots. A lot of highlights, but the camera did well. Were you using the 70-200 f/2.8?

The last three images (in Hollywood) were using a 24-70 mm. The remainder were using a 70-200 mm. The speed of the AF was truly amazing. I do not have any accurate comparison with the D300, but it seemed considerably faster.

I was using it this weekend as well and it's a beauty.
The auto focus seems to be a little bit quicker than the D300 or at least it seems that way with the 85/1.4.
I may get some argument on this as well, but from what I see first hand, the image quality is nicer as well.
I can't really put my finger on it, but the primes I used look different on it. Almost like the bokeh or the transitions between colors is smoother.
Here are a couple I shot this weekend.

Thanks! I could see that it was de 70-200 because of the vignetting in some pictures. I didn't expect to see vignetting on a 24-70 though. Picture #7 has very noticeable vignetting.

I wonder where and how to find the Bill Claff Lightroom hack that you mentioned?

I wonder too how long it will take Adobe to support the D700 in ACR and Lightroom?

The vignetting was a surprise to me until I discovered the default camera setting provides for what is described as "Normal". I have since turned it off through the Shooting Menu.

they are usually pretty quick. you won't wait more than a month or so.

but if you don't need the type of additional adjustments ACR provides and only want to import raw files in Ps it would be better to make tiffs out of view nx (setting wb, exposure and maybe a picture control). in the end Ps only works with tiffs and ACR is the converter. a lot of adjustments can be done with 16bit tiffs.

Thanks for the link to the Bill Claff fix and it worked perfectly.

I just got the camera today and have been able to open the Claff converted files in Photoshop and Lightroom.

I saw here in the forums somewhere that someone said the ACR 4.5 would support the D700 even though it isn't listed to I installed the 4.5 and the files open fine in Photoshop but Lightroom 1.4 will not see them. When looking at "About" in Lightroom it says it is using camera raw 4.4.1 - Do you know if there is a way to make Lightroom recognize that the 4.5 is installed or do I have to wait until I get Lightroom 2.0?

Thanks again for your help.

Bob
