Hi,
I need advice on value of this deal.
I am getting the following:
* Nikon D700 Digital SLR Camera Body
* Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Pack
* Lexar Pro 8GB 233x CompactFlash™ Card with Image Rescue™ 3
* Nikon EN-EL3e High Capacity Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (guessing this is on top of the included one in the box)
* Nikon SLR System Case
* Other not so useful stuff

for price of $2754 including shipping. Seller is cameta camera (through ebay). Is this a good price? I have purchased F5 from this seller earlier and very pleased with it.
I have a good arsenal of lenses, so I am not planning any lens kits with this.

Please send your suggestions.
Thanks,
- Nilanjan.

Retail pricing from B&H Photo:

D700 - $2349.95
MB-D10 - $259.95

Lexar 8GB 233X CF Card - $54.95
or Lexar 8GB 300X CF Card - $49.95 (after $60.00 mail-in rebate)

EN-EL3e - $41.95

Total for these four items is $2706.80 or $2701.80 if you choose the card with the rebate

Add another $25-$50 for the bag and you're there.

You are right. What was I thinking? I am nuts.
I didn't realize that reputed dealer like B&H has same price.
Thanks for the legwork.

No problem.

I've just been dealing with with B&H for so long that I automatically look there first. (I do compare prices every now and then though)

I have always been a 'lurker', seeking to gain knowledge from those more experienced than me in digital photography. My 'big step' was a Nikon D70. To date, I have not been convinced of it's superiority to my N70 with a 24-120 lens, or my N90 with heavy glass (80-200 f2.8) 35-70, f2.8, 50 mm, f1.4, etc). I am still shooting film and have recently acquired an F5. The film and filters feel natural to me. However, I have recently been offered the following 'deal'.

The camera was purchased Nov., 2008. It comes with the following attachments:
Nikon 12.1 pixel D700 SLR Camera
Nikkor AF-S VR 70-300 zoom lense.
Nikkor AF-S DX ED VR 16-85 lens.
Nikkor AF-S VR 24-120 lens.
Tamron AF 28-80 Aspherical lens.
Two re-chargable batteries with charger.
Sandisk 4 GB Extreme lll Compact Flash Memory Card
Sandisk Compact Flash USB Memory Card Reader.
USB Cable used to transfer photos from camera to computer.
Software to edit photos on the computer.

Will sell all for $1,500.

I am tempted to pick it up, since it allows me to use all my big glass in a new way. Any comments? I have gone through many generations of computers since the days of the Atari and Commodore. Is the D700 another Commodore or TRS-80 that I should bypass? Or is it another real camera like the F5, that represents real progress?

Just checked B&H and retail price is $2700 after $300 instant rebate. How did you get $2400?

I bought a D700 Monday and didn't see the $2349 price until I added it to my cart. It was a pleasant surprise since I thought I was going to pay $2699.

Add it to the cart, it will be $2349.95 in there once you do.

Sounds too good to be true (and probably is) unless everything is beat up or stolen.

I sold a low click D300 body recently for more than $1200.

The estimated value of all the items is much much greater than $1500.

Just a quick search of recent sales on eBay (in the US).
- D700 $1900.00
- 70-300 $425.00
- 16-85 $535.00
- 24-120 $300.00
- 28-80 $37.00

You have almost $1300.00 just in lenses.

Checked Adorama and the price is $2349.95 after adding it to your cart as well but free shipping seems to be faster with B&H.

Lesson here is probably add it to the cart to get the best price.

Good luck in your quest to get the best deal on the D700!

Went with amazon for $2349.95. Arrived yesterday and I am totally blown away with its quality. Viewfinder is much bigger, 50mm feels like good old 50mm and I don't have to climb the ceiling fan to take indoor shots. Very happy with my purchase.
