Hi,

I picked up my D700 during my lunch break today. Now I have to wait ALL afternoon before I can go home from work and play with it.

Enjoy!

I got mine today and I'm playing with it instead of working!

First impressions:

Ahhh. God formed my hands for the express purpose of fitting around the grip of my new D700. It is like a glove.

To anyone who has a D70 and has been waiting - you must sell your children or do whatever you have to do to get a D700. It is like your were married to Kathy Bates for many years and then you're suddenly single and dating Christie Brinkly in her prime.

The viewfinder is humongous compared to my D70. It's been a while since I looked through the viewfinder of a D300, but I can say that when I looked through the viewfinder of my new D700, I immediately said "Woah!" There's a lot of acreage there!

I put the 24-70 on the camera in the store and shot at ISO 1600 and 3200 and there is no noise in the LCD blown up to 100%. I shot the clerk at the store with my 85mm 1.8 and I had a depth of field about as shallow as the width of 3 pours on her nose.

The best part: my 24-70 was 24mm at the wide end. You remember that from film days?!?! It's back, baby! I can't wait to fire up the ole' 80-200 and take some portraits!

OK, so I'm a bit overwhelmed right now. I'll just say that I love my new camera. It's a great camera.

Congratulations! Perhaps you can at least charge up the battery this afternoon while at work?

I ordered mine from Roberts this morning, but I just was over at the Annapolis Mall and stopped by the Ritz Camera store. They got two of them in this morning and had one on display. I fondled it. Felt good.

Nikon has to be given a lot of credit, it seems to me. That have rolled these out like a military operation. Every store and mail order house, all over the world, seems to have an ample supply simultaneously. That is pretty hard to do.

No one can complain about late delivery, inadequate supply, etc. This was brilliant.

Playing with your camera instead of working and willing to sell the kids. I'd say your priorities are in tune with mine.
Can't imagine what Randy's thinking about--working instead of shooting. And on a Friday.

Kudos for Nikon. I had no problem purchasing a body today. I made a few enquiries yesterday and it seems there are still a few available at various on-line retailers.
I went into Jessops today to order not expecting to walk out of the store with one. I was going to hold off a while for the price to drop but the Edinburgh Fringe Festival kicks off next week and I will enjoy using my new camera there.
My 70-200AFS is now a 70-200AFS again.

Great Dave, and also for others in this thread, I am now counting the hours till 3 pm when mine is guaranteed to arrive. I would enjoy seeing photos of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with your D700(on your gallery maybe, I'll add you, if you don't mind so that I can check your gallery later on, to my buddy list, so I can see someone else's D700 photos),

Hi Debra, I'll have to upgrade my membership to create a gallery. Probably should have done a long time ago.
Hope your new D700 arrives on time.
David.
