Oh goodie! I am so excited to get my hands on my new D700! Sounds like that might happen next week! I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve!

I got the email too yesterday. It said it was shipping from Nikon and would be shipped to me as soon as it it got to their warehouse. Did all of you order from Ritz? No tax, no shipping!

Interesting... I pre-ordered mine from Ritz and I haven't received confirmation, yet. I did receive part of my order (a lens), but nothing on the D700. When did you guys place your order?

Did you pre-order from a store, or from Ritzcamera.com?

Do you know if there is a way to track your order? I have an order number.

Congratulations on the D700's. Please let us know when you receive it. I can't wait for mine to arrive.

Tom,
I ordered on July 2nd early in the morning from Ritz on-line and received the e-mail. You can track your order by going to Ritzcamera.com and entering your order number and surname in the "order status" box. At present all it states is "back-ordered",

I ordered mine in the store on July 7th. I noticed mine doesn't have an e-mail on the order receipt. So... I guess no e-mail for me.

My dealer who is local to me and I preordered with the day of the D700 announcement, told me that his rep called him last Thursday to tell him they are on track to ship the D700's he ordered ON the 25th of July (this is next Friday) just as Nikon originally promised. That would get them to him (and me) on the 29th Tuesday as he ordered them paying for 2 day shipment. I'll get this confirmed next Friday and if so, I'll have one in my hot little hands on the following Tuesday. Let's all hope it's true.......

Nobody here is worried about getting the first items of a producction batch, with the infancy problems that sometimes arise?

infancy problems are inherent to mankind, so why should somebody be worried about?

and quite honestly, I have not the slightest clue why the D700 creates so many "concerns and problems" for quite a few in this community.

I have neither concerns nor problems with the D700, or with anyone buying it, I may end up buying it myself, but I am always wary about buying too fast into a new product. I did it once and got burnt.

But of course you can do what you want. Faltaría más.

the more new technology is in a product, the higher the risk that there are teething issues. this risk is also reflected in the high starting prices of new DSLRs in form of reserves for unplanned issues. Leica surely encured high cost to fix the bugs on the M8.

I give Nikon the credit for being very proficient in what they are doing. now, I would not give that credit to some car manufacturers where I would also adopt your approach and wait.

Well.. the good thing is, most of this is not new technology for Nikon. It's basically all the same guts as the D3, just packaged in a smaller body. So, the D700 should reap the benefits of the D3 and D300 out before it.

Hi Tom. Ordered mine from ritzcamera.com. But I had to call them because they made an error on my order. Error still shows on the website when I track my order, so I called again after I got the email confirmation, and the guy assured me that the error is only on the website. You can go to their website and click the track your order button.

Actually, that is a very good point.

My D70 I bought shortly after it came out, four years ago. It crashed intermittently, and after 3 years it totally died. Fortunately, I had purchased an extended warranty (something I otherwise RARELY do), otherwise I would have been SOL.

After the third-party warranty repairs, the camera never crashed again.

That said, I am not going to wait for the "D700s" bug-fixed version.
