Valentino Awarded for high level skills in landscape and wildlife photography Registered since 04th Dec 2004

This months theme is Curves. More specifically C-curves and S-curves, which are often powerful compositional elements that leads the eye through the image, often shifting the visual impact from static to dynamic, especially when they start in the foreground and go off into infinity.

Participating in our monthly contests is a fun way help us become better photographers. We can see and learn from all of the entries as our members showcase their best work each month.

These monthly contests are the preliminary rounds for the Annual Nikonians Photo Contest where you have the opportunity to win attractive prizes and have your images highlighted in the Winners Galleries and published in the eZine.

The top images will be selected by the winner of the previous months challenge and will be included in a poll for members to vote for the winning photo. Please keep in mind that images will be selected based on image quality, subject matter, relevance to the theme, and creativity just to name a few.

The winning image will be added to the Landscape Forum Winner’s Gallery. The winner will be recognized in our weekly newsletter and will receive a printable Certificate of Photographic Achievement.

I look forward to seeing how you fulfill this challenge!

Good luck!!!

RULES:
-- Post up to 7 images but only one image per post.
-- This is a contest – Please present your best, portfolio quality, work
-- Include shooting info so we can learn from each other.
-- Previously posted images are welcome but not previous contest winners.
-- When posting please do so by hitting the ‘reply’ link below this top post, not the reply link to another post.
-- Include a title in the subject line.
-- Capture must be shot with a Nikon camera and any lens.
-- Comments are welcome but NO public critiquing, i.e., how to make it better. This is a contest so PM's are a better way to offer feedback.
-- No people in the composition such that the people become or compete for the main subject.
-- To be considered as a finalist the post must be a Landscape - see criteria here, AND also meet the monthly theme such that the theme is a standout feature - what one thinks about when looking at the picture. Image enhancement in the digital darkroom is acceptable as long as the final result looks mostly like a photo - the exception is when the theme specifically allows for digital art.
-- WARNING Posts that do not meet the spirit of the challenge will not be selected as finalists and may be periodically removed by the moderators without notice.

This is another image pulled from my lost and found negatives. The shot was taken on a trip to Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park, I believe in the 1971-1972 time frame, so it was most likely taken with a Nikon Photomic T. Tri X was the film, and the lensa and other data was not recorded. The original negative was copied to my D700 with a 55mm Micro Nikkor and a PB6/PB5 combo and then processed in Capture NX2 where the negative image was inverted.

Hello Nikonians, been far too long since I've contributed which in turn has probably contributed to the drop-off in my rate of sorting through my shots. So, time to get back on the horse as it were...

Sunset on the beach at Perranporth in Cornwall, a shot that I wanted to get to capture the fishbone effects of the little tidal streams.

While it is a bit subtle, I love how the creek's bend mirrors the back of the buffalo. I wish that I could say that it was intentional when I shot it but, alas, it was one of those niceties discovered in post.

Hello Olivier.
This is a very nice shot. I am curious if the farm house in the background was blurry in the original photo or if this was done in post. Was your focus point right at the foreground?

Nice work. Thank you for sharing.

This image was taken after midnight in Wiseman, Alaska, 80 miles north of the Arctic Circle this past March. The curving and dancing aurora was wonderful in the full moonlit night sky.

Hi!

Sorry, I had not noticed your question before - I don't subscribe to challenge or contest threads, there's too many traffic on them usually

The image has not been modified except for the obvious cropping and conversion to BW and warm tint. So the farm is blurry in the original raw file. My focus point was relatively close and although I shot at f/9, the focal length has allowed for some blurring of the background, which transformed a plastic, shiny greenhouse into a shiny "thing" in front of the buildings. And some heatwaves radiating from the field also contributed to the blur.

Hope this helps!

I had the opportunity to drive up into the mountains. I went looking for images with dramatic, stunning curves. Images that would take your breath away.

Oh, well--there is a reason why they are called "the Smoky Mountains". The fog rolled in; I watched as tendrils and fingers climbed up the ridges and thick blankets settled down over the peaks.

No dramatic curves, but the curves are there, if you look closely....

As previously stated, my attempt for a grand picture with curves fell through. But as I looked carefully at some of my September shots, I started to see little curves in unexpected places. I cropped this one so that you could see what I mean.

Everyone's photos are impressive. I'm glad I don't have to pick the finalists! Kudos, Nikonians!
