Havent heard a thing either but then again the NPS email saying "good news" just kind of shows up. With the manual up on their site I am hoping for some more info soon and maybe getting it in coming weeks, they were quick with the Z9.Visit my Nikonians gallery.

I sent it in at 10:34 am central time the day of announcement. The local shop opened at 10, and I couldn't submit it without an order number so they had to get that set up. No shipping email yet either so not too worried, though I've of course seen others confirm they are getting it. A rep is double checking to make sure Im in the system, hopefully in coming days. It would be nice to know how it works, or if there was a chance I'd get a Wonka Golden Ticket email over the next week, but at least they are trickeling in.Visit my Nikonians gallery.

Fri 22-Apr-22 11:55 AMyeah, i'll just be patient. Was hoping for a moon shot that i'd have it for the Miami F1 race on May 6-8. Likely just shooting that with my 300 2.8 and some TCs though.

I saw an earlier than expected notice from B&H that the lens was ready for pre order. I had to call and place an order over the phone to get an order number from dealer in CA I got the Z9 from because they did not have the lens fully in their system yet. My order at Samy's shows it as placed on 4-5 at 2:21 PM Pacific Time. But that was after they got their stuff in the system so they could enter it. I know I called them to get an order number earlier than that time.

Thanks - tough to know how it all works.
I'm with NPS, and had someone just double check I was in the system; alas the person checked and there was a slip up and my order wasn't there. They are very helpful and said do not worry we'll fix this, so I'm assuming I'm back in the system. Would prefer to go local as I'm doing a trade in, hopefully an email in coming days.

That's awesome. I sent NPS an email and hopefully can get a little clarity, I was first in line at the local dealer and I'm doing a trade-in so hopefully it will work out there. I'm glad I called in to double check though last week as somehow the order was lost on Nikon's end, but I'm hoping alls well now though. Tue 26-Apr-22 04:36 AMThat's not my understanding of how NPS orders work. If you register your order with NPS, Nikon ships your lens to the store specifically allocated to your order number. While what Samy's said could mean they have 20 NPS orders and 8 non-NPS orders awaiting, from the context it sounds like they are getting 20 non-NPS lenses and have 8 orders. The NPS orders would be separate.
But I'm not certain that's what they meant.-- Jon

I believe that is right. I emailed an NPS rep and also was curious so called Samy's; the Samy's person said they don't think they have that many coming in, and the NPS person said they weren't getting that many either, but Samy's does have an estimated shipping date of 4/30 on their site now. I'm hopeful NPS will come through though it's not urgent I get the lens, just itching to try it out like everyone else so hopefully it's not a matter of months but just weeks. Tue 26-Apr-22 05:23 PMJon, Paul, Jon described correctly how NPS works.
Members place an order with Nikon or an authorized Nikon dealer. You inform NPS of the order with details when you register for priority shipping with them. When Nikon gets in the product to ship to dealers, they take a certain amount aside to satisfy NPS priority orders, though they don't take all the product. Some goes to dealers to fulfill non-NPS orders they might have.
The product set aside for NPS members is given to Nikon or the store at which the NPS member ordered. It is specifically noted in the shipment that the product is to fulfill a specific order for the specific NPS member. In other words, the pipeline for NPS and non-NPS members are totally separate. NPS priority order impact the other orders only in so much as it makes for less product to ship to stores for non-NPS orders.
I've been dealing with NPS for a long time through lots of changes and periodically speak with them. Right now, that's the procedure.
If the new start of shipping is on April 30 then those of us who are NPS members will start hearing from NPS that they've shipped our orders to the stores from which we placed our orders.

Jeff Mitchell the Nikon Rep for the Western Area is here doing presentations and answering questions. He had never seen an 800 PF and neither had the owners of Perfect Light Camera in IF and Yellowstone Camera here in West Yellowstone. As he said I one of the few in the West to have one
Jeff said supply for a lot of product was looking good then Singapore shut down where a lot of parts come from hit and the the war in Ukraine and that whacked the chip supply again because defense suppliers have priority over every one else.
Jeff said his current backorders are larger than total sales in his region in 2015.

Thu 12-May-22 10:12 PMEric, they haven't come close to fulfilling the first day of NPS orders.
I ordered and have my NPS confirm at 1:00pm ET on the first day. I haven't gotten mine and know more than 100 Nikon NPS members who ordered the first day and haven't gotten their 800mm either.
Nikon, like all the manufacturers is getting hammered by parts shortages, but also, I think that they were caught flat-footed at marketing on this lens. I think the demand for the 800mm far exceeded their projections.

Fri 13-May-22 07:33 AMI believe they have decided not to fulfill the NPS orders first on this lens because of lower production capacity and high demand. I think they are providing a low allocation to stores for non-NPS and then shipping the rest of production for NPS - just not holding back delivery for several months waiting to fulfill ALL NPS.
I have no idea what production looks like for this lens, but my serial number was 20003XXX.Eric Bowles

Fri 13-May-22 11:48 AMYes, I agree. They're definitely not just fulfilling NPS orders. I know a couple of non-NPS Nikon users who have gotten the lens from a local store. On the other hand, I got in one of the earliest orders to B&H and I don't have mine yet. I believe that they are having a hard time like Sony and Canon at getting electronic lens parts which is going to keep production slow for a while.
I've confirmed the problem with Canon, but not Sony or Nikon about whom the shortage has been reported. Canon always seems more forthcoming than Nikon from my perspective.
