If I was interested, I'd be a late comer anyhow. I tend to be a year or two down the road on anything new, and even then, I need a strong push. I moved from the D700 to the D800 as a logical progression, and shifted to the D4 for 95% of my shooting when it was a few years old. I think in the end, I feel the camera in my bag continues to work when a new model is introduced! It sounds like you did a back flip and landed on your feet though!Alan

I rarely land on my feet. Also lucky that the dealer had the FTZ adapter that I ordered; in a recent post I heard they were backordered.
After two hours with the camera it seems pretty intuitive. I think I will like the EFV but it is different- brighter than the scene pictured but I darkened that (don't have the color adjustment right yet) and put in the histogram insert. Just got to figure out now how to change the lens manual focus ring to alter exposure comp. This will keep me busy and out of trouble for a couple of weeks.Visit my Nikonians gallery.

Yes, my camera store ordered 6 kits (not sure of the other choices) and only 2 were picked up already. They have a lot of interest but people are waiting to see about it. I love mine.

A good decision. Beyond the Z7 I am blessed with a D500 and D850. For wildlife outings I carry two cameras so it will probably be z7 and D850 (selling D500). However, while I like the Z7 thus far I can see I am going to have to spend a lot of time with it to be able to comfortably switch between it and the D850 when the action is fast. On screen menus vs. good old buttons. A great setup would be the 300PF on one camera and the 500PF on the other (w/ TC14 in my pocket). There is another issue. Because Nikon is so late to the mirrorless space, many of us already invested in another system. I now have a Fuji XH1 and a bunch of Fuji lenses, with which I am very happy. The decision to now invest in one more complete system is a difficult one to make.

Over the past month I have been getting more and more interested in the Z7 and realized that the camera price was essentially the same as the 500. Yesterday I decided to change so went to my camera store, cancelled the 500 order and put in one for the Z7 (24-70 bundle). I accepted that I'm late in ordering so it would probably be a couple of months before I got a camera.
This morning my sales guy called and said my camera was in!! This kind of thing never happens to me.
I ordered from a fairly large camera store in Chicago's Western suburbs (about the only one left). To my query yesterday the salesman said they only had two preorders for bundles and two for bodies. I'm surprised- apparently its not going to be like the D500 or D850 intros. Sounds like a lot of people are going to wait and see.
