Strada_Facendo Registered since 06th Jun 2017Wed 19-Sep-18 03:15 AMNikon's high-end lenses are not made continuously. A production line is set up, enough are made to cover expected sales for several years, then the production line switches to another lens. That, rather than the design process, sets a limit to how many new lenses can be introduced over a year, because each time the production line changes over, you lose production.
Also, obviously, a larger-volume lens occupies the production line for longer, so it is particularly difficult to introduce multiple larger-volume lenses over a short time. What we usually see is a mixture of low-volume and large-volume lenses.
The Z mount complicates the process, because Nikon needs to introduce several large-volume lenses over a relatively short period, so my guess, FWIW, is that it is unlikely we will see many new F mount lenses, and no larger-volume F mount lenses while that happens. It may not be accidental that the new 500/5.6 is a very low volume lens."I don't want to show things, but to give people the desire to see." Agnes Varda

Wed 19-Sep-18 03:23 PMThank you for this, did not know how Nikon produced its lenses. Absolutely agree that F lens production is going to be somewhat limited in the next few years as the S lenses take center stage.
There are plenty of F lenses for me and my D750. In fact believe that I need just one more, an UWA.
Lets see how it all plays out.

Stray thoughts, perhaps, it will be what it will. There are enough great F series lenses around but there will be pressure on new F series lens delivery. When there is a DX ML out, there will need to be at least one walk around DX S series lens. The 24-70 is not going to cut it. Perhaps a WA as well.
Okay enough of this, go take great pictures. Have a super day.
Cheers,
Sanjay
