I'm using both CFexpress cards and XQD cards in three Z bodies (2 are Z II bodies). I tend to watch the LED indicators when mounting and dismounting a card in the card reader. I noticed the blue indicator LED had one pattern for the CFexpress and a different one for the XQD card.

Using…
— Apple Mac PRO (late 2013) running Catalina
— Sony MRW-G1 CFexpress / XQD Card Reader via USB 3.0 powered hub
— Sony TOUGH CFexpress 512GB cards
— Sony XQD 120GB cards

Behavior when inserting a CFexpress card

After inserting the card…
— Blue LED comes on, blinks a bit while mounting the card
— Finder lists the card when it is mounted

After ejecting the card in Finder but before physically removing the card…
— The card reader's blue LED blinks then goes off
— The listing in Finder disappears

Behavior when inserting a Sony XQD card

After inserting the card…
— Blue LED comes on, steady state, no blinks while mounting the card
— Finder lists the card …this is the only indication the card has been mounted

After ejecting the card in Finder…
— The card reader's blue LED continues to glow, no blinking, card still in the reader
— The listing in Finder disappears …this is the only indication the card has been dismounted

After physically removing the XQD card the reader's blue LED finally goes off

This is probably nothing to worry about but I thought it might be of interest to some.
