I can open an NEF in preview from my previous Z1 but not ZII.
Just noticed,
Message on screen says “Preview currently does not support this RAW format.”

Thu 04-Feb-21 08:52 AMTrue but not my question which was" Big Sur, this weeks new version does not support preview opening of Z7II NEFs" Plus the same camera does not appear in Apple - About-System Report - SW- Raw Supply.
This is as per my iMac and new Air and applies to Big Sur V 11.2 released this week.

Thu 04-Feb-21 09:04 AMNEF's have never opened in Preview. If you go to the Photos app, try to open a Z6II NEF there. If it works, most likely Apple has updated Digital Camera Raw, but may have forgotten to update the System Report table you viewed.Larry

Thu 04-Feb-21 11:53 AMLarry I bow to your experience and don't want to argue so maybe I am doing something wrong?
I have always opened NEF by right clicking and selecting Open in Preview when I want a quick check.
Please see attached screenshots of a Z 1 and a D 5 NEF which were opened in Preview.
I cannot do this with Z7II 2and thought that is possibly because the ZII is not in the stated place in About This Mac in Big Sur latest version?
Not a big deal or essential to do it of course.

Thu 04-Feb-21 02:02 PMActually, it's the other way around! You are correct and I can also open a Z6 NEF in Preview by "Open With". For some reason, earlier version of Mac OS wouldn't let me do it and I "assumed", which was a mistake.

You still might see if you can import/open a Z7II NEF in Photos. That uses Apple's Digital Camera Raw file.Larry

Fri 05-Feb-21 01:29 PMG'day fellas. I just updated my (early) 2015 McBook Pro to Big Sur 11.2. The System Report now shows the Z6ii and Z7ii, where it did not show under Big Sur 11.1 right before I upgraded. Finder icons will not display the thumbnail, but will if you have Preview set in Finder. I also imported a Z6ii NEF file into Photos and displays no issue, with a marker indicating it is a RAW file.

Seems I am not the only one with this issue, found a number of posts on the web all with Big Sur 11.2.
One person said his suddenly worked out of the blue.
Ken on this thread has shown his is fine.

I found this as surprising as he did, what I did recorded here in case it helps anyone else.
On both Macs I opened the RAW support list with Photos App also opened and within a few minutes the Raw Support List populated with Z-2 cameras and I could open NEF in preview.
(It is required to have a NEF on the computer for this to work)
(The person who pointed me at this said it took some hours to work on his machine)Visit my Nikonians gallery.

I click the Apple Logo - About - System Report - Software - Raw Supply and the Z7 is there but not Z7II itself.
I assume that Apple have not recognised the camera yet? Would someone possibly confirm that please or tell me what I am missing. Is there usually a delay in this?
