I have been using this combo for a while (up until recently deciding to put it up in the for sale forum), with and without the TC-14EIII, on both the Z7 and Z7ii and have not had an issue. I have updated the firmware in my FTZ, but even before that, never had an issue. May want to call Nikon to ask if your lens needs a firmware flash.

Good thought on firmware. One feature of the Z cameras once the FTZ has been updated is you can check on the Nikon site for a firmware update, and then perform the update using the Z camera and FTZ. Everything needs to be connected for the update to be completed - but you can update your lens firmware without sending it to Nikon. This applies to F-mount lenses with the FTZ as well as Z lenses.Eric Bowles
