Thu 31-Dec-20 05:08 AMMick, I have the Kirk L bracket on my Z7 and find that I can still use the remote release cable while in portrait mode by positioning the bracket slightly to one side of the tripod mount - but there's still plenty of bracket being held by the clamp for a secure attachment.

Thu 31-Dec-20 07:07 AMGeoff,
Yes, you can finagle the bracket in a few ways to make it work, not positioning it on center in portrait mode, or sliding the bracket so there is more space between the left side of the body and the bracket. Both of those methods depreciate the convenience value of using a L bracket to rapidly reposition from horizontal to vertical.Mick

Fri 01-Jan-21 08:30 AMAs mentioned, sliding the L-Bracket to the left works. I can use both my wired MC-DC2 release and the WR-R10 receiver on the tripod in vertical mode with my Kirk L-Bracket.
I see that Nikon has a new WR-R11b to replace the WR-R10. I have yet to figure out what is really different other than the form factor.
In the future, I would expect the receiver function to be integral to a camera body and not even require an accessory. That would be a better solution than adding a port for an appendage.

Agree with you wholeheartedly, Brett. My GPS has a right angle connector and it's far easier to use than the typical straight connector.

This configuration is supposed to allow for connector clearance?
It is indeed curious that we don’t see more right angle connectors.

Sat 02-Jan-21 11:24 AMHello Ford,
I use the two part RRS L-bracket but it really only accomplishes the same thing as the Kirk, that is, it gives you the possibility of more space between the side of the camera and the L-bracket. In my experience, and I have the Kirk on my D750 & D700, it moves far enough out so that you could keep the cable routed inside the bracket, for example on my Nikon GP-1, if you were willing to bend the cable hard, but I don't like it bent that hard.
As a heads up, I bought my RRS bracket at B&H and it included a badly formed hex head hole in one of the screws. B&H will of course correct the situation but so far the two part RRS L-bracket is back ordered at B&H.
I should add that I chose the RRS bracket this time because it includes the QD connector hole on both the bottom and on the side sliding bracket. I really like the QD sling.Brett

Sat 02-Jan-21 11:40 AMAt one time, there was a guy that could make a right angle connector or put a right angle connector on a remote. I don’t know if he still does it. http://michaelbass.blogspot.com/
As I recall, it wasn’t cheap.Mick

Sat 02-Jan-21 12:51 PMWhen I started using a GPS with my D7100 I had the same issue. I searched for right angle cables but they seemed to always be right angle in the wrong direction. I was not wanting to space the portrait direction of the bracket away from the body. I was worried about vibration and slipping of the camera relative to the bracket. This could be a problem for HDR panos which I was doing frequently.
What I found are two different spacers compatible with arca-swiss. The one on the left (larger one) is from Kirk. The other is from Really Right Stuff. Both are solid solutions and allow for the cable exit straight out from the connector then make a suitable bend without damage to the cable.
I no longer have the D7100 but luckily still have these spacers. I may still need them for my Z cameras (6ii and Z-50) But first I am using SnapBridge for both GPS and remote trigger. SnapBridge seems much more stable than the last time I tried. I am particularly interested in how consistently it works over a long day of shooting.
Wired with the spacers is plan B. Likely first few times out I will have the wired version just in case.

Sat 02-Jan-21 02:51 PMVery interesting Bob. I was not aware of either of those extensions.
While I really wanted SnapBridge to work for GPS, it's accuracy was terrible compared to the GP-1, or even the Foolography Unleashed. Unfortunately, the Unleashed seems to have other problem but I am hopeful that Foolography will work with me on what I believe is a defective unit. When comparing Unleashed to SnapBridge I also find that SnapBridge only provides access to the trigger button. I am not even sure if it provides for long press. I usually use the Nikon wired trigger (forget the ID) which plugs into the GP-1 or the camera and can lock open for astro or other night photography. Of course the Z6II now provides for extended shutter periods so that will be far less important if not completely irrelevant.Brett

Are you able to plug in the Foologly device when there is an L-bracket on your Z camera?==============================

Sat 02-Jan-21 07:25 PMYes, bdecker432, it fits though its tight to the right hand side, tight enough that it requires that the bracket slide out in order to slide the Unleashed in. Then the bracket seems to slide all the way back in without issue. As I think I mentioned though, the current batch of Unleashed doesn't seem to work with the Z6II, or I just have a lemon, may well be the later - we will see.Brett

Sun 03-Jan-21 08:09 PMBrett,
All I am looking for is reliable gps and shuttle release with multi-shot release. Is the Unleashed able to do that now?
Thanks
Bob-

Sun 03-Jan-21 08:22 PMTry the Solmeta GMAX. Aside from GPS, you can trigger focusing and the shutter with a cell phone app or a dedicated remote. Both of those use Bluetooth.Mick

Sun 03-Jan-21 08:32 PMBob,
I fear mine is damaged and not representative. I have problems connecting to the phone app but when it does connect the shutter does work as does the gps from the phone’s location. Changing settings in the app such as aperture in aperture mode effects the camera but resulting changes to iso and shutter do not feed back to the app. Considering this, I have removed the Unleashed from the camera and I am awaiting the passing of the holidays. I am confident Foolography will respond to my enquiry.Brett
