Instead of mounting the camera to the tripod, mount the FTZ to the tripod. That should alleviate your concerns and potential problems for any F mount lens that does not have its own lens foot.Mick

Thu 12-Nov-20 02:41 PMThe bottom of the FTZ has the same size mounting hole as the bottom of a camera or a lens foot. You can mount any plate in that way or mount directly to a tripod.Mick

I have a Manfrotto plate permanently attached to my FTZ, but I have no S lenses. The FTZ is permanently on the Z6.

I do think the 14-24 is relatively heavy and borderline. It probably depends a bit on how you handle the gear. The Z mount is sturdy - equivalent to an F-mount, but you do have the additional depth and therefore leverage. The 14-24 and 19 PC are probably the only lenses I have that fall into this category of big, front heavy lenses.

You can have an L-Bracket attached to the camera at the same time. Depending on vertical/horizontal orientation for the desired shooting on a tripod, you may need to adjust the FTZ bracket position which is not a big deal.

I always have an L mounted to my cameras (D4 + D850) wherever they are 24/7. I fully intend to have one on this camera as well. I have found them to be very handy.....especially because I am constantly losing plates !!:zany_face:Rick

I too have an L-Bracket mounted on every camera. I have attached a Cotton Carrier hand strap to each. I find a hand strap to be very helpful for walk around hand held shooting in that the hand strap provides some stability and security against an inadvertent drop of the camera.
I also find the L-Bracket to be very helpful for tripod shooting with small lenses that don't have a rotating collar. The L-Bracket makes switching between horizontal and vertical so much easier than using the ball head drop notch.

Assuming I mount the Nikon F mount adapter to the body, and then a larger F-mount lens (like my 14-24 f2.8) to the adapter, and then throw the whole assembly on a tripod with the attach-point being the body !! Am I looking for trouble ?? That is a lot of weight supported by the mounting bracket, as neither the 14-24 nor the F adapter have feet allowing mounting other than the body.
Anyone see any issue here ??
