Ive used the wr-r10 on the Z6 ii setting off two remote SB5000s. Very simple set-up and worked like a charm. Ive heard distance is limited 20'. Apparently the replacement extends further but it isn't cheap.

Tell us about Direct Connect to PC or Mac. I haven’t heard much discussion about Wi-Fi connect.
Tell us about AF Face | Eye tracking with intervening objects - like a basketball game. I’ve seen an example with a pre-production camera and there seemed to be very little eye tracking. In easier tracking situations, eye tracking didn’t seem to engage until the subject was quite close.

I'm another who will be keen on the recording - the webinar will be very late in the evening in Europe.
The better AF is my reason for pre-ordering a Z7II. I'm hoping it will also be possible to have spot focus on Fn1 or Fn2. This was a great feature of my late D850 that has not been available on the Z7.
Otherwise it will be good to hear (good and bad) from real-life users.

Nikon UK replaced (free) the rubber surfaces / grip on my Z7 after they started to bubble. I read that a few others folks may have had the issue too, can I take it that if that was a general problem as opposed to a one off it has been considered on the ZII camera production?
Having owned about eight previous Nikon models I never saw this before and I was surprised when it occurred on such a late model as the Z7.

It would be helpful-at least to me- if the speakers discussed,
the differences users should expect when setting up the Z6ii/Z7ii compared to the Z6/Z7 - including:
- the eye focus setting
+any changes in using SnapBridge
+ any changes in flash settings if someone is already using the WR-10.
+as others have already mentioned any changes in focus tracking settings.

I too am an advocate of recorded presentations, but the value of Zoom (according to my granddaughter in high school) is the two-way interaction available. It doesn't always work perfectly, but with the proper preparation it usually does.
Thus I am in favor of trial runs from the presenters.

Zoom is something that was created I believe for the kids who had stay at home to communicate with their teachers during the pandemic. It is not foolproof and in some cases has been easily hacked. NASA won't let us use the app for business but a new app was created called ZoomGov for the US government. I've used it a few times but with a VPN that is tied to my NASA account. I do not know for sure how it works in civilian applications.

Thu 03-Dec-20 05:26 PMZoom had weak security in the early years. About 12 months ago they stepped up significantly by settings defaults to require registration, setting the default to require a password, and other steps. I have not heard of security issues unless people override the built in security settings. They had huge growth by appealing to consumers. I understand some of their server operations are in China, so it's still got a security issue for the government.
GoToWebinar is a little better for large webinars. It's a Cisco enterprise product. It's more scalable and has more features that are important to large organizations. Both are similar in functionality but the controls and interface are a little different.
The other product that is in use is Microsoft Teams. That's probably the one with the edge for enterprise deployment. They were a little late with some features. It's also a Pay Only product for most of its life, so it is not used by consumers. But it is a much more flexible and powerful product for not just webinars and meetings but also collaborative work.Eric Bowles

Thu 03-Dec-20 09:42 PMAgree with Eric on this one, zoom is now pretty secure, I spend most of may days setting zoom up on older person Tablets, computers or phones so they can have video consults with their doctors via zoom or attend OT/PT exercise session etc, I have also set it up for people t work with their solicitors and Barristers with out any issues. Way better now than it was and as secure and with more fears in some respects than other offering out there. Its live captioning work an absolute dream for those that are hearing impaired

When the Z7/Z6 was announced Nikon gave a presentation at a local camera store (Georges Camera in San Diego, CA). 1. Does the auto focus tracking exceed that capability of the Nikon D500 for tracking small and medium sized birds in flight?
In other words will the Z6II and the Z7II exceed the hit rate I get with the D500 shooting small to medium sized birds in flight?
2. What is the fps shooting 14 bit RAW for the Z6II and the Z7II with equivalent of D500 High Continuous on AFC? Keeper rate for BIF at this setting?

Michelle shared some terrific images and background on her experience with the Z6ii and other Nikon gear.
I certainly felt she busted a bunch of myths. She is using the Z cameras for birds in flight - and shared a number of images of blue jays, canada jays, loons, and other subjects in fast action.
Michelle is using the 500 PF and 800mm f/5.6 lenses with the TC20E III teleconverter on the Z6/7/6ii. She has a lot of experience with gear and challenging conditions, but she has no hesitation to use a teleconverter rather than cropping. I would not have believed it was possible. The Z cameras make AF easier with those extreme combinations. She understands there may be an impact on the success rate - but the great images are fantastic and worth the lower hit rate.
It goes without saying that Michelle is migrating to the Z system as fast as possible, but has no hesitation about using the FTZ.
The most frequently used mode for AF and action subjects are the Wide Large and Wide Small modes. That was no surprise. But she has had good success trying Animal Eye AF with a number of animals beyond dogs and cats. It's most successful with a well defined eye. Human Eye AF is also used with success. She is not locked into any one mode - and changes without a lot of thought.Eric Bowles

Having already bought into the Z system, this was the biggest takeaway for me. I have not have much luck with TCs in the past (especially the 2x), but will definitely revisit this now that I've seen what is possible.

Wed 09-Dec-20 07:23 AMMichelle is a working pro. She receives some support from Nikon, but it's not a lot of money. She has to buy her own equipment.
Nobody shows the bad shots. But I think what she showed and spoke about was a willingness to put in the hours working a subject so even with 1 in 1000 being good, she is able to get positive results. Look at the way she is stretching the use of gear - 2x teleconverters on f/5.6 lenses, extreme low light, slow shutter speeds and VR/IBIS, etc. Each of these is going to reduce your hit rate by 80-90% - even for a pro. But the successes justify the risk because the alternative is sitting at home with a cup of coffee and no image. I don't know that I've seen any shots before using the 500mm PF or 800mm with a 2x teleconverter.
I've seen the same thing with Arthur Morris. He frequently uses teleconverters and even stacked teleconverters when he was shooting Canon gear. Some of the slow shutter speeds are remarkable. I also really like my Z7 for its great resolution and I have the MB N10 to support it in its long duration night exposures, but comparing the Z7 and the Z7ii I see very little difference. What are you expecting to expand with the 7ii?

Not being a wildlife photographer, I found Michelle’s approach, and the results she obtains, to be real eye-openers. However, from the perspective of this frames-per-minute shooter, the most important takeaway was that the Z6/7ii don’t offer me anything significant for my photography over the original Z versions. However, I may be in the market for a low-mileage used Z7 to complement my Z6 as other folks upgrade!

Using the teleconverters with combinations that are f/11 wide open is breaking a traditional rule. Using these combinations at slow shutter speeds or handholding is another rule she is willing to bend. And using the highest frame rate - 14 fps or 10 fps with the slight delay instead of slowing to 5.5 fps is another way she breaks with conventional wisdom. She also was using Animal Eye AF for subjects other than dogs and cats - with good results some of the time.Eric Bowles

Michelle lives in a great place, right next to a Provincial Park (Sharbot Lake). Although I though she said Ottawa, but thats 150-200 km away. The wildlife there is amazing. Will go back there when the border reopens.
The Webinar answered a number of my questions about Z6II. It leaves me puzzled about all the accolades Sony and Canon are getting however. Anyway who cares long as the camera does the job for me.

Nikon tells us that both the RF 1.4x and the 2.0x TCs support every focus point for the Z cameras all the way to f/11 effective aperture. It was encouraging to me to see from this demonstration that you can get the same f/11 effective performance through the adapted 2.0x extender. The no. of Z focus points you can use through the adapter?
I expect there will be a rush among 500 PF users for the TC-20E III. I hope you will give us some feedback. I would probably join in, but I'm still relying on the 200-500.

Michelle has been in the field using the Z6ii and will be able to share a first hand report on the camera and how it compares to the Z6. Mike Lopez is Sr. District Account Manager for Nikon and is based in Melville, NY. Mike is excited to share what’s new with the Z6ii and Z7ii, as well as answering many of the questions you have about the cameras.
We'll have more details to follow. We are working on one of several wildlife or sports photographers who can speak directly to the performance of the new cameras, how they compare to other cameras, and noteworthy features they have used.
We'd like to hear what question you would like to be addressed during the program. Please post your questions as responses to this thread and we'll include as many of those questions as possible - plus leave time for questions during the program.
