Tue 20-Oct-20 05:25 PMDarrell Young’s book is complete and easy to read without going into any technical details. It will get you everything you will need to know about the two cameras in the shortest amount of time.
Thom Hogan’s book goes into much more technical detail and is much larger than Darrell. He likes bulleted lists and tables to explain various camera modes while Darrell uses straight paragraphs.
Steve Perry only discusses the Z autofocus system but in more detail than either Darrell or Thom. It is a great add-on.

Steve Perry updates his ebooks and sends customers free update links, His Z Mirrorless one for example is for FW3 Z7/6, FW3 was an important one.Visit my Nikonians gallery.

Just to be clear, I imagine that FWn is a camera software update level? Maybe standing for "Flash" something? Sorry, I certainly expect this must be a newbie question.
Does anyone know when updates for the outdated books are expected?Brett
Edit: Looking around I see that FW is likely and abbreviation of Firmware.-

Sat 24-Oct-20 07:16 AM | edited Sat 24-Oct-20 07:34 AM by WingnutsYes it is Firmware, sorry if it. was not clear. Simply pointing out that some books, ebooks or hardcopy may not cover all the versions of a camera.
For example the FW status of the Z7 went to Version3 which includes updates to things like the camera focus system so those new items would not have been covered in a book which was written at an earlier date prior to the update, unless the author covered those updates with a new version of their book or online update.
This assumes everyone does carry out updates to their camera, rightly or wrongly I update everything whenever I am informed of a change for example Nikon publicises updates to cameras, I receive an email from them when that happens and it is likely a Nikonian member will post before then if you follow the respective forum.
This also includes Nikon Manuals where you may find the version on the front of the book and you can check you have the latest info on Nikons Support pages for Firmware, software including manuals.
(PS I believe the latest version of the Z7 camera itself is V3.12)Visit my Nikonians gallery.

I think you would find his present book worthwhile I wonder if he will eventually have a new specific book or update the present one. Some time off isn’t it.
I contacted Nikon UK and they said UK camera deliveries about 12 th December, I have taken my Z7 into my dealer in part exchange against my preorder so hope that date is acheived.Visit my Nikonians gallery.

Bear in mind that S.Perry books are not complete manuals as such, more comprehensive specific subjects eg Autofocus and Exposure and Metering.
The other well known authors produce books covering the whole camera in addition to the Nikon Manual that comes with the camera. Who knows who will get a ZII one out first?

I messaged each of the top three authors above and asked about Z 6 II versions of their books. Only Thom Hogen responded. He tells me he will have a Z 6 II specific book. No schedule was indicated.

Thanks for the list.
Instead of reading so many books, I prefer to concentrate on the best 2 for my case. New to Z, some years of DSLR experience. As you have read a lot, which 2 do you think will be best for Z beginners? Thanks.

Actually I have only just begun to read Steve Perry’s book, and I am awaiting Mk 2 versions of the other top two from those I identified. Apakett, as well as others above, provide excellent summaries and guidance. Steve Perry writes an excellent book but it’s just on the focus system.Brett
