I have tried several plates and L-brackets for my Z50. Because of the narrowness of the body, there is no Arca-Swiss compatible plate that will not interfere with either the LCD screen moving down or the FTZ. You can have one or the other clear, but not both.
My best suggestion is to get a plate with two slots and mount it so that then LCD can move. When you want to use the FTZ, move the plate to the FTZ.
I wish Nikon would design another FTZ without the foot on the bottom for mounting to a tripod. It is in the way, even to a certain extent on the full frame Z bodies.Mick

Tue 20-Oct-20 10:44 AMThanks Mick. That's what I was afraid of. After I posted I realized that I do have a very small Kirk PZ-130 plate that has the clamp notches on the sides instead of front/back that I had used on my recently sold V1 that could possibly work. It has a small lip on the front to keep it from rotating and is only an inch wide from front to back.Mike R.

https://www.3leggedthing.com/zayla Im not sure about if the FTZ hits or not.
or if you have the peak design gear, they make the zayla-pd With that you could actually mill down the front lip so the ftz adaptor isn't getting hit.. and use the Peak design as your Arca Swiss plate.

Tue 20-Oct-20 07:35 PM | edited Tue 20-Oct-20 07:36 PM by mklassWe had a discussion earlier about this. The Zayla is a problem with the FTZ and does interfere with the LCD. See this thread Arca+Swiss+Plate+for+Z50#7808" target="_blank">https://www.nikonians.org/forum/topic/477-7800-7800/REArca+Swiss+Plate+for+Z50#7808
My attempts to use the Zayla on the Z50 are in message #18.
I think the Kirk PZ-130 is the best solution for just a camera plate, although is increases the camera height considerably.
As far as an L-bracket, geometry is against making one work well.
Frankly, i've decided not to worry about it and only use my Z50 handheld for casual photography. If I am dosing serious work that needs a tripod, I'll use my Z 7 or D500.Mick

Thu 22-Oct-20 04:28 PMMick, I don't think it will raise the camera much. A quarter inch maybe. I had used it on my V1 and it worked really well on that camera and since the notches are on the sides instead of front/back I'm thinking it won't even interfere with the FTZ adaptor. Unfortunately I live in a small town with no stores to look at the Z50 in person where I could just try out the bracket before buying the camera.Mike R.

Sat 31-Oct-20 08:23 PM | edited Sat 31-Oct-20 08:30 PM by mealsopThe RRS BP-CS is what I use on my Z50. Leaves a lot to be desired but it works. It prevents the display from moving into the selfie position but otherwise does not inhibit the display movement. There is a lip that aligns the plate to the Z50 body that fits between the body and the display. The clearances are all adequate and this is the one RRS recommends for the Z50.File size:123626 bytesFile date:Sat 31-Oct-20 08:22 PMCamera make:NIKON CORPORATIONCamera model:NIKON Z 7Date/Time:Sun 20-Sep-20 09:54 AMResolution:960 x 552Flash used:NoFocal length:105.0mm (35mm equivalent: 105mm)CCD width:4.17mmExposure time:0.167 s (1/6)Aperture:f/8.0ISO equiv.:64Whitebalance:AutoMetering Mode:patternExposure:ManualExposure Mode:ManualJPEG Quality:88Comment:Mark E Alsop/ZooRoomPhotography.com======= IPTC data:=======Byline:Mark E Alsop(C)Notice:Copyright 2020 By Mark E Alsop

Sat 31-Oct-20 08:58 PMYes it does, the BP-CS plate must be removed from the Z50 to use the FTZ. I keep a square RRS dovetail plate on the FTZ.Mark

For instance when using the 300mm f4 or the 70-200mm f4, I would rather have the support point on the lens foot. Better balance & less strain on the body's mount.

I tried the Acratech adapter for the FTZ lens and they are not compatible with the Z50. The plate hits the grip of the camera when you are mounting the lens so that it will not mount. I let Acratech know and they are getting a Z50 and coming up with a new design.
If I'm using the FTZ adapter, I use the plate on the adapter. For the bigger glass, I used plates on the lens collar.

Sat 31-Oct-20 08:45 PMThe Haoge plates do work really well on the Z50 and the FTZ. Here are a few photos showing what they look like. As you can see in the photos, clearance between the Z50 and the FTZ is very tight.File name:IMG_8270.jpegFile size:80352 bytesFile date:Sat 31-Oct-20 08:43 PMCamera make:AppleCamera model:iPhone 8 PlusDate/Time:Sat 31-Oct-20 12:36 PMResolution:640 x 480Flash used:NoFocal length:4.0mm (35mm equivalent: 56mm)Digital Zoom:2.000xExposure time:0.250 s (1/4)Aperture:f/1.8ISO equiv.:100Whitebalance:AutoMetering Mode:patternExposure:program (auto)JPEG Quality:76======= IPTC data:=======File name:IMG_8269.jpegFile size:97235 bytesFile date:Sat 31-Oct-20 08:43 PMCamera make:AppleCamera model:iPhone 8 PlusDate/Time:Sat 31-Oct-20 12:36 PMResolution:640 x 480Flash used:NoFocal length:4.0mm (35mm equivalent: 56mm)Digital Zoom:2.000xExposure time:0.250 s (1/4)Aperture:f/1.8ISO equiv.:100Whitebalance:AutoMetering Mode:patternExposure:program (auto)JPEG Quality:76======= IPTC data:=======File name:IMG_8268.jpegFile size:58803 bytesFile date:Sat 31-Oct-20 08:43 PMCamera make:AppleCamera model:iPhone 8 PlusDate/Time:Sat 31-Oct-20 12:36 PMResolution:640 x 480Flash used:NoFocal length:4.0mm (35mm equivalent: 56mm)Digital Zoom:2.000xExposure time:0.250 s (1/4)Aperture:f/1.8ISO equiv.:100Whitebalance:AutoMetering Mode:patternExposure:program (auto)JPEG Quality:76======= IPTC data:=======Visit my Nikonians gallery.

#19. "RE: Nikon Z50 tripod mounting plate - PZ-130 works!" | In response to Reply # 0
Anyhow, the Kirk PZ-130 plate works perfectly on the Z50 with or without the FTZ adaptor (see photos). You can see in the second photo there is just enough clearance between the plate and the FTZ adaptor to not cause any issues mounting both at the same time. I also put the PZ-130 on the adaptor and it works well on that too. The only difference between the PZ-130 and larger plates is that you mount it in the clamp side to side instead of front/back, but that's not a very big deal other than the clamp screw is off to the side instead of the back. I'm going to go ahead and get a second PZ-130 for the FTZ adaptor so I don't have to keep switching the plate back and forth.

Wed 09-Dec-20 04:28 PMYou will need to verify that with both plates in place you can still attach the FTZ..Visit my Nikonians gallery.

Wed 09-Dec-20 08:08 PMIt will be close but should work. I'll know for sure when I get one. The depth of the bracket is exactly the same as the FTZ adaptor (1 1/8").Mike R.

Sun 03-Jan-21 10:37 PMNice. I ended up with the same L-Bracket. I got the short model with the Peak Design adapter. Works great. No problem with FTZ adapter. Excellent solution for the Z50.Visit my Nikonians gallery.
