Luminar seems quite easy to use. I love the before/after toggle, but that seems to be everything or nothing.
How do you undo cropping? I cropped an image and can't seem to undo my crop.
The lack of an undo overall is crippling. It's really bad to delete an adjustment and then not be able to restore it.
It may be just a touch slower than Affinity photo at opening a RAW file.
It seems that the only way to make adjustments is to grab the slider and drag. Is there no way to use a mouse scroll wheel to just hover and adjust? (far easier in Affinity) What about directly typing in a value? This drag only is a huge negative to me (that alone would be enough for me to not use Luminar).
The laggy / slow updating of the image compared to Affinity being basically real time makes adjustments really hard to do in combination with the lack of mouse scroll wheel adjusting.
Lack of tooltips is a bit frustrating as a newbie (not knowing what something does).
I love just click toggling through the histograms for the different colors.
Even though the "curves" filter is listed it doesn't appear to function.
This is definitely not a fair review as this clearly seems to be early beta. Luminar seems like a fun "toy" suited for people that love using presets. Since I don't use presets (and have no interest in them) I don't think Luminar is useful for me. Compared to Affinity photo it doesn't feel like a "serious" photo editor. The user interface has some really nice aspects but the horrible drag only adjustments render it almost useless.
Sorry if you love it Chris, I don't mean to be harsh but it just doesn't come close to comparing to Affinity Photo. Caveat again of course is that this is just a beta version of Luminar.

it's more than just preset, even though every program have there own now, and maybe too many.
to uncrop, just click on the crop icon and reset it from there (work this way on Mac)
obvioulsy its a beta version and its not as functional as the full version so really, you can't expect iit to run perfect.
as compare to AP (real fast), luminar is quit fast, way faster than Lr.
for the sliders for adjustment, maybe in setting you can configure it with the mouse wheel. as for the histogram, you can either select rgb or individually. might not work in pc beta yet though.
the undo is like every other program, ctrl Z or cmd Z.
affinity photo is like photoshop, they can't be compared to regular photo editor (Lr, Luminar, ACDsee, DxO, Capture one, Corel paintshop pro) to name a few.
Affinity is working on a DAM so it will be a game changer =)
but again, Luminar for pc is just a beta stage.-

Mithel Registered since 12th Mar 2017Fri 14-Jul-17 07:38 PMAh thanks, with Luminar Beta you can uncrop by clicking on the crop tool and *then* clicking on the reset arrows icon.
It looks like there aren't any settings / configuration abilities in the beta version yet.
Control+Z does not work.
Luminar is FUN.

I also just discovered the export functionality is extremely limited. Only JPG and only a crude slider for quality / compression, no other options.
Luminar also seems to only allow loading and editing one photo at a time and gives no warning to save the photo you were working on. Definitely a few painful spots in the Windows Beta!

chroaz Registered since 26th Apr 2009Sat 15-Jul-17 01:36 AMIt appears the things you are experiencing are beta issues, as I don't see any of them in the Mac version - the scrolling issue is not one I have thought about, so I will look into that.
I use Luminar as a tool in my workflow, not for the whole thing. I do not use it as my RAW converter (except quick fix photos). I use Optics Pro for that. I use Lightroom for ingest and export, so those things are not a limitation for me in Luminar.
Finally I would take issue about it being for preset users mainly. Not so, but they do give quite a good starting point. The AI filter is extraordinarily useful as a place to start, and the ability to set up different workspaces is very useful too - though I am not sure that is in the Windows version at the moment.
As for speed, I have not noticed a limitation, but haven't used Affinity enough to make a judgement. Certainly I have not noticed it as a limitation. Especially as I am used to how long I have to wait for Prime Noise to run in DXO Optics Pro!

I have been using the Mac version for a little while and have now incorprated it into my workflow as my central tool. I continue to be very impressed with it, especially its intuitive interface and its very light learning curve.
PC devotees might want to give it a try - it's not quite as full featured yet as the Mac version but it should give an idea of what this app is capable of. And they have a great updating program too.
