I normally just use the L-bracket on the camera body for the 14-24 or similar lenses. I don't normally do anything special. If the lens has a lens foot, I use the lens foot and normally would use a Black Rapid strap attached to the foot for carry.
I do think the 14-24 is relatively heavy and borderline. It probably depends a bit on how you handle the gear. The Z mount is sturdy - equivalent to an F-mount, but you do have the additional depth and therefore leverage. The 14-24 and 19 PC are probably the only lenses I have that fall into this category of big, front heavy lenses.
