I use Linux all the time for work but not much for personal use. There's nothing I can do about games being Windows only but I try it out every six months or so for photo editing. The biggest problem I've run into is with screen calibration. I have a Spyder 4 and I haven't had any luck getting my monitor properly calibrated under Linux. I typically have to dual boot and run the calibration under Windows but that gets to be a pain after a while. The actual editing software ranges from acceptable to very good in my opinion. The interface can be awkward and it's missing some features but it gets the job done.
On a side note, it's funny/sad that RawTherapee easily beats Lightroom and Photoshop for X-Trans demosaicing. You would think a billion dollar company like Adobe would be able to beat a bunch of hobbyists.
