Subscription software is the wave of today AND the future. We see it with Microsoft Office 365. I don't think the large firms that seek to corner and HOLD a dominant segment of their markets are going to suddenly and drastically jack up prices. Doing that encourages others to take risks to grab disgruntled clients. And remember, in the days before subscriptions, full versions of Photoshop could cost north of $500. I know -- you "owned it," but not really. Like many softwares, if you read the fine print, you saw they could stop supporting it at some undefined future point. So I subscribe. To some extent, it's like the choice between buying a car and taking a cab. On the other hand, while I don't mind getting my updates via the cloud, I have no intention of storing my data there. IMO, the cloud has too many potentials for a hiding place for thieves and opportunities for people to go out of business with my data boxed up on their loading dock.
