hi jerry. I would have no reservations buying on ebay whatsoever. I have personally bought a d500 and a d810 on ebay and sold a d7000 and a d750.
Just be sure to buy from a seller who has a fair amount of transactions and has been a member for a while. also check feedback score and only buy from a seller with 99% or higher positive feedback. I once purchased a d810 before the one i currently own and in tracking the delivery it was supposedly delivered, however i never got it. After contacting the seller he claimed he got a message from me telling him to send it to a different address which he said he did. Either it was a scam or he got scammed somehow. Anyway I immediately contacted ebay and explained what happened.
They did a quick investigation, and about 5 days later I was issued a full refund. The point is that you have protection from ebay in the event the seller doesnt fulfill the order to your satisfaction. You will most likely need a paypal account as well who also offer buyer protection. Just make sure you read the item description thoroughly and message the seller with any questions. Hi Jerry
I have the D4s and absolutely love it,
before you settle on the D4s, I would seriously try and pony up for the D5
The D5 was a giant leap in technology

First, I'm not getting enough to get a D5. Second I'm adding to the lens collection too. I've got my eye on the 24-85 mm, f/2.8, 35-70 mm, f/2.8, and a 80-200 mm. f/2.8 all Nikon's. That seems quite a haul for one tax return. Obviously the D4s is going to be a well used one, but it will still be new to me.

If you do get the D4s, I have a D4s cheat sheet you can have if you want it
and excellent idea on the fast glass as I'm always chasing light

An FYI, through the person I am purchasing a D4s from they are also supplying a copy of David Busch's book about the Nikon D4/D4s. When I tried to find a copy of the field guide for those cameras I discovered that they are priced for $698+ the spiral bound. The regular bound book has a price tag of around $250+.

The truth of the moment is that I've paid for the D4s and am now waiting on the shipper to deliver the camera. There is a significant degree of excitement and frustration in effect at present. I doubt that I am the only person to experience this but it sure feels like it.

I had a copy of the Owner's Manual that I had ordered printed from overseas. It was kind of difficult to understand some of the explanations without having the camera at hand to verify what was being read. Things that I read are becoming much clearer now that I can see what is being talked about.

I'm a bit confused in reference to the Banks in the Shooting menu and the Custom menu. Once chosen can Bank A of Shooting be combined with Custom Bank B? And various other options.

Any understandable explanation will be appreciated.

Okay, I am thoroughly confused. I've been reading through a copy of Busch's D4/D4s big book and have seen several references to using a button labeled AF-L/AE-L. However, I am unable to find any other mention of that particular button and cannot find it marked on any of the diagrams of control locations.

HELP!

I wonder if he is referring to the button that is labeled AF-L/AE-L on the D750 but is labeled the AF-ON button on the D4s?

In Chapter 12 I saw a reference to the Subselector button center being the default AF-L/AE-L button. But that isn't covered anywhere else that I can find.

Seems to be a significant difference between the D750 and the D4s. I'm still wading through Busch's book on the D4s. Boy, there's a lot in there.

Could it be an error in Busch’s book? Guessing the proofers mighta missed something.

If u don’t use back button focus, you could likely assign the Ae-l to the af on button.

An update on my learning to use the D4s. I've been using it much more than the D750 or the D810 that I finally managed to acquire. I think the D4s is fast becoming the camera of choice for my general shooting. Another piece of information, on the D4s and the D810 for everyday use, are 2 24-120 mm f/4 lenses. I've managed to acquire the 70-200 mm, f/2.8, and the 80-200 mm, f/2.8 lenses. I'm amazed at the solidity of both lenses and the feel of them being on the cameras. When I'm riding the city buses I carry the cameras with their 24-120 lenses in camera bags so that they aren't as easily seen or noticed. But if I see something interesting I have the cameras at hand.
