Alleys can provide some really nice subjects - long rows of trees on both sides of a road. But this row wasn't quite as long as it should have been and the traffic was terrible, so getting the calm to shoot it wasn't easy.

The sound file:

  1. Welcome
  2. Packing
  3. Fleece bags
  4. Weather observations
  5. Shooting the alley
  6. Shooting the bridge
  7. Winding down in the rain
  8. Goodbye

Video supplement:
Images of the packing, Kata bag, neat fleece bags and other practicalities. And of course images from the location.

The Nikonians On Location #26 - Drive-by-shoot

Added by martinj | July 15, 2008   4:50 PM

With the camera mounted on a tripod and connected to a wireless remote trigger Martin experiments with getting some decent images from the car while driving. The results are mixed. Not all good, but not entirely bad either.

Video supplement:
A bunch of the pictures from the drive-by-shot. Most of them blurred, a few of them useful, but quite a lot of them interesting... kinda.

Added by martinj | July 2, 2008   11:00 AM

Martin Joergensen giving himself the assignment of taking pictures with a distinct line going horzontally through the center. Shot some for the purpose, but also manipulated some in Photoshop.

If you're in some kind of creative doldrum, you can always give yourself an assignment. Martin likes giving himself constraints in his photography - like this one: shoot images, which are cut in half by a horizontal line in the subject.

Video supplement:
A bunch of examples to illustrate cutting pictures in half and what use it can be.

The Nikonians On Location #22 - Chaotic Collages

Added by martinj | June 16, 2008   10:30 AM

This time Martin is sticking a lot of individual images together to form collages. He covers the way of shooting them and how to create controlled chaos in the result.

Click here to download Nikonians On Location Podcast #22 (NPC-OL-2008-06-16; 21:36; 10.1MB, MP3 format).
Video supplement available here (NPC-OLV-2008-06-16; 6:30; flash format).

Show Notes: June 16, 2008
Inspired by Heather Champ of flickr and David Hockney, a British pop artist, we this time venture into a more arty way of taking and working on pictures. By shooting panoramic-like, but without the meticulous control that's used in normal panoramas, we get a dozen or so images that can be arranged into a chaotic collage.

Video supplement:
This week's slideshow shows a few examples of the finished collages and follows the creation of a couple too.
