Adobe Lightroom Beta 3 - Straighten tool for correcting camera
angle issues
Article

I
have given the new Crop & Straighten tools in Adobe Lightroom
Beta 3 a good workout and they get my wholehearted stamp of
approval. In combination with the new History panel, the Crop
& Straighten tools are a real pleasure to work with. The
entire Crop & Straighten tool box is extremely easy to
understand and use.
The
selection boxes are Show Crop Overlay and Constrain Aspect
Ratio. The Aspect Ratios setting drops down a set of Aspect
Ratio options when the current Aspect Ratio is selected and
the Straighten Settings are a simple slider that selects the
Angle you desire.
More
than likely you will probably choose to use the rotate tool
that pops up when you move the curser close to a Crop Overlay
corner, rather than the slider. Cropping is also easily achieved
by clicking on and moving the Crop Overlay border.
The
image itself scrolls under the Crop Border when the hand symbol
appears, and the image size shrinks and expands to accommodate
the border and angle you have selected.

Default
Crop & Straighten settings - (you can see in the History
Panel that I have already made a number of experimental adjustments,
but have selected Reset in the Crop & Straighten tool
box to show the default settings).

I
have selected a Custom 1x3 Aspect Ratio and Straightened the
horizon (-0.80)

The
final results, a straightened and cropped, 1x3 Aspect Ratio,
panorama of Elephant Seals in Big Sur, California.
