Adobe Lightroom - Develop Module - Detail - Smooth

I
must admit that I rarely use a smooth or soften type of filter
(even in Photoshop CS2) and that this one does not really
make me jump for joy either.
Back
in the old. old days when I worked as a lighting assistant
at Playboy Studios West, the favorite softening filter was
a cheap black scarf bought at the check-out counter of the
local Woolworth or in another photographer's case the discarded
stocking of a long lost girlfriend.
My
own favorite filter was always a #5 Harrison Fog Filter (no
two filters were ever alike and this one was very sharp for
a #5 fog filter). I just dug the filter out of my equipment
closet and it is unfortunately now showing separation and
air bubbles and probably no longer of any use (or maybe better
than ever). My favorite use for this filter was in the darkroom
where I used it to create a strange and eerie glowing effect
with certain black & white films, developers and papers.
I
would love to see a Harrison filter plug-in for Adobe Photoshop
CS2 and Adobe Lightroom.

The
most extreme effect on this page is on this image, where I
have applied both sharpening and smoothing.
