Exporting
files out of Adobe Lightroom Beta 2 is adequate in some regards
but sadly lacking in others. I would like to see all the file
saving variables that are available when doing a file
save as or
a file
save to web
in Adobe Photoshop CS available in Adobe Lightroom. As a matter
of fact I would like to see all the save functions of Adobe
Photoshop CS and Adobe ImageReady implemented in Adobe Lightroom.
At
the moment if you want to access any of the Adobe Photoshop
CS or Adobe ImageReady file saving features, you have to transfer
the file you want to save to Photoshop CS or ImageReady in
the Adobe Lightroom Photo
menu
(available in the Library and Develop modules) using the Edit
in
............. command. Which is fine as long as you have a
copy of Adobe Photoshop CS.
The
current File
Format
export options in Adobe Lightroom Beta 2 are limited to JPEG,
TIFF and DNG.
For JPEG and TIFF, I personally prefer to transfer the file
to Photoshop CS for saving. DNG is kind of interesting though
because it allows me to save an Adobe Lightroom enhanced RAW
file and keep all the original Camera RAW, Adobe DNG and metadata
files in one convenient package for archival storage, or to
be read by another RAW processor that supports the Adobe DNG
format.
Color
Spaces
available when Exporting files are sRGB, AdobeRGB (1998) and
ProPhoto RGB.
File
Naming
uses the same clever Tokens
system as in the Import function of Adobe Lightroom, it makes
it real easy to customize your exported file names.
The
Constrain Size
box is functional but very basic, for now I prefer to keep
using Adobe Photoshop CS to do my resizing and saving of JPEG
files.
My
advice is to not let the lack of functions in the Export dialog
box be a deal breaker for Adobe Lightroom, just remember that
this is Beta 2 and that improvements are sure to come.
P.S.:
Please do not get upset if your personal experience and views
are different from my own. These opinions are mine exclusively
and do not reflect the views or policies of any of the manufacturers
mentioned in this article...... George
