Nikon SB-800 with GF Lightsphere II CLEAR, with no dome

i-TTL keeps on doing its excellent job to balance the light even with direct flash with its head straight forward now with a Lightsphere CLEAR but without dome.

The Lightsphere diffuses the light plenty but, still not what you may want to do for a close-up portrait.

Straight forward flash

With the flash head with Lightsphere at 60 degrees (no dome), the very apparent shadows in the previous shot fade a bit although not that much; contrast decreases.

Too hot at the top for a shot at this distance. Not recommended.

Light is much better when bouncing from the ceiling straight upwards at 90 degrees with the Lightsphere diffuser.

Almost perfect despite the fact it doesn't have its dome on. The shinny spot at the top of the vase is greatly diminished, almost gone.

Shadows behind the subjects are non existent. Only under the frame of the picture in the wall.

Comments

The wonderful job the GF Lightsphere II does at diffusing flash light is very evident, much better than the Nikon dome even when the Lightsphere in use doesn't have its own dome on.
