Being a mid-range f/2.8 zoom lens, the Tamron may be compared with the famous Nikkors 35-70mm f/2.8D and 28-70mm f/2.8D AF-S. In fact it is almost exactly the same size, though a little lighter than the 35-70 Nikkor. However its pricing is more in the range of Nikon's top "consumer zoom" the 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5

Apparently this Di (Digitally Integrated Design) is currently one of the most compact and lightest of fast zoom lenses. Its compactness makes it look and feel like an ordinary standard zoom lens, yet providing the versatility that a fast constant maximum aperture offers.

LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements and Internal Focusing may very well place this lens in the same category of professional lenses as well as bigger and more expensive Tamron lenses.

LD glass elements are there to reduce various aberrations while minimizing the fall-off of light at the corners. It also features XR (extra refractive index) glass and efficient use of aspherical lenses.

Most interesting lens to say the least.
