CONCLUSION
Pros:
- Produces
very good quality monitor and printer profiles: the colours
are accurate and the tonality is well balanced.
- Achieves
a good match between the monitor and printer.
- The
hardware and software are both easy to set-up and use.
- Versatile
in its ability to profile CRT or LCD monitors, any RGB printer
(from an Epson inkjet to the Fuji Pictrography series) and in
the provision of additional facilities such as spot colour and
ambient light measurement.
- Expansion
options are available to allow profiling of CMYK printers, scanners
and projectors.
- Good
value for money considering the package contents and its versatility.
Cons:
- No
digital camera profiling option.
- No
profile editing facilities (although given the quality of the
profiles such a facility would likely be redundant for all but
the most experienced users).
- Careful
handling needed to avoid scratching papers where the ink remains
on the surface when using scanning mode.
- Minor
software problems in i1Match and i1Share; for example the Eye-One
would occasionally fail to respond the first time the button
was clicked when scanning a row of the test target. However
it should be noted that GretagMacbeth is actively fixing such
issues, and updates for these applications are available via
the i1Color web site.
