THE AUTOFOCUS

All I can say is that the autofocus is lightning fast. The "IF" in the lens denomination has nothing conditional in it, it means certain, precise and ultra fast "Internal Focusing". After using consumer lenses on a F4s for close to 10 years the speed is almost incredible. Whether one who is not a photojournalist really needs it at this focal length range is another issue, with which I will not spoil the fun.

It has 10 elements in 13 groups, however 2 of the elements are ED, and 3 are aspherical.  That accounts for increased sharpness, no chromatic distortion and other aberrations common to ultra wide angles. Obviously an excellent design.

The pictures below were taken with an F5 mounted on a tripod, all shot at f/8 in sequence, on Kodak Supra 400, focused on the green building, not at hyperfocal distances.
