(26) Flash: off camera on SC-17, at left on a tripod, no diffuser
Flash head: straight into subjects,  downward from +10° above the horizontal level
Flash settings: TTL + Matrix
Flash compensation: - 0.7
Exposure: 1/200 sec, f/7.1
Result: Too subtle flash, except for shadows.
(27) Exactly as above except for increased flash compensation to -1.7

Result: Even subtler flash, almost not existing hint of it, except for shadows.
The magical number has no magic under this type of light. One must understand under what situations it is useful. This is simply not one of them.

(28) Exactly as above except for no flash compensation and addition of a diffuser

Result: Slightly better lighting.
Diffuser useless.

(29) Flash 1: on hot shoe, no diffuser
Flash head: straight forward
Flash settings: TTL + Matrix
Flash compensation: - 0.7
Flash 2: at right of camera (left of bears) into subjects from a -10° below the horizontal level, no diffuser
Exposure: 1/160 sec, f/6.3
Result: Best lighting, strong shadows almost eliminated by the use of two speedlights.
(30) Exactly as above.
Reshot to check if there was any change due to the movement of the trees canopy as a result from the wind. None observed.
