The way I learned afocal photography was when the camera was set to infinity and was mounted to the eyepiece of the telescope, the eyepiece and telescope were manipulated to achieve focus on the celestial body; the camera took the place of the observer's eye. It would be similar to mounted a small digicam to field/spotting scope (aka digiscoping).
