I live in the Cleveland area. I have had mine on order at Adorama since March 1st with no movement. I don't blame adorama at all, but I felt they were at a disadvantage for me, since they had a large NPS list to fulfill before getting to the normal folks like me.
Last week I called a local shop and ordered one. Today I got a call that it is in (a friend did this 2 weeks ago and got his in 3 days)! So, there does seem to be something to be said for trying a location that does not service those NPS folks as much (IMHO) ?

I had ordered from BH first day AM. Still waiting for ANY information from them. Called my camera store a couple weeks ago and they said when they got the next shipment they would let me know and I have one today.
I had been a very good customer of BH. But doubt if that will continue. It is not the back order situation, it is the lack of communication. Recently I sent 2 emails asking for information -- neither got any reply. I have cancelled that order.

BH is a huge store but not a national chain. Thus, they likely have a big sales and distribution center but limited resources for customer inquiries. I don't think it's that reasonable to make them a black sheep when they don't answer a multitude of emails about product availability. If you're dying for information, call the store and talk with someone directly. They've always done 'right' by me with speedy shipping and delivery of quality items. I'm not upset with them because I had to buy my D800 from Best Buy.

Every other email that I have sent has been replied to in a day or so (I have done a lot of business with BH). I did call in the beginning but didn't get any information at that time either. As I said -- it is not the back order situation (I don't mind that I got a camera somewhere else), it is the lack of communication.

I decided to get on the list at another local shop. To this point I was just on B&H and Bergen County Camera. Anyway ... to make a long story short ... I called another camera shop local to where I live ... and BINGO ... D800 tomorrow !!!!
