"My D800E is on the way"

Macedonia, US

Got the call from my vendor this morning. Hope to be playing with it by early next week and do my own comparisons against my D700.

I'll do some comparison shots at different fstops with sharp lenses and not so sharp lenses on a very beefy tripod using mirror up or at least exposure delay mode.

Then I'll try to do the same shots handheld with and without VR.

Maybe I'll throw an old D50 into the fray for fun.

Are you NPS?
My dealer says several more weeks.

Not NPS. Should probably become some day but..

Anyway - I lucked out because this D800E WAS an NPS shipment but the NPS member decided against it and I was first on the non-NPS waiting list.

Congratulations!!! I hope to be one of the lucky ones to play with a D800E someday. It is fully paid for and I'm on the top of the list -- all they need are some cameras to send out!

I will think of you enviously as I shoot (still pretty good) photos with my D300.

I had the D800 on preorder since July 15th, 2009. Yep. ALMOST THREE YEARS. That's what it takes to be at the top of a list. Fortunately, I have a good relationship with the vendor. I'm already on the D900 waiting list :-P

Just put down $$$$ for my D800 with my local dealer. He says the wait will be about 4 to 5 weeks. He already got five and sold them. I'm #14 on the waiting list.

The D800s have been trickling in. I think most of NPS should be satisfied already as far as the D800s go. D800E's just started showing up last week so we're probably still in the NPS phase before most non-NPS people get theirs. All depends on whether your vendor got any non-NPS shipments. NPS always arrives first and those are individually named shipments to specific NPS members.

I could have had a D800 back in the first shipment as it seems my vendor got at least 1 non-NPS body ( or an NPS member opted out ) but I decided at that time to wait for the D800E, so the lucky person next on the list got it and has been shooting for a month already with it. I had already arranged with the vendor that I could waive the D800 when it came and switch to a D800E and stay at the top of the list.

It helps to build a relationship with a vendor you can actually talk to, and the person you are talking to is actually in your country.

The vendor is Berger Bros, by the way, and I highly recommend them. I have been buying gear from them for years. Tell Lisa I sent you over to pre-order your D900 She's great to work with.

I hope everyone will have theirs within 2 or 3 months.

Got my D800E yesterday from a small local Nikon Pro dealer. I ordered the D800 4 days after release and changed the order 4 weeks later in the D800E. The first testshoots look very crispy!

So let's see pics!

I never have any luck with the dealers in my area having stock. The one pro dealer within an hour of here never does. I have had some luck with some small camera shops that aren't near big cities, though. That's hit and miss.
