I'm very excited about the upcoming release of the D800's BUT is there
anyone else out there that would like a D800 WITHOUT video capability ?
If there was a D800 without video at a lower price point I'd REALLY
be excited.
As a long time film photographer and newly converted digital guy. I personally don't have ANY interest in video and dislike the idea that I have to pay for a feature that I will never use.

And yes I know If I dont like it I dont have to buy it, but it would be nice to have the megapixels without the video.

I think you may be surprised if you use it. There are certain scenes that can be captured better in a still photo and a video. There is no downside, because you don't have a choice. Either you are in, or out. In the future, if not now, most new cameras will have both features. Good luck.

Demand would be lower so price would have to be higher, who is going to pay more for less.

Since Nikons own admission that this high pixel count is aimed at professionals in the studio doing portraits and others doing landscapes, where doe's video fit into that.?

Video covers all the current needs of everyone, even those claim they will never use video. I assume there is a certain sub-set of Nikon photographers who want video (like me).

IMO Nikon is in the business of making profits by creating a product that captures large shares of fast growing markets. No doubt, regardless of spin, this has been endlessly researched by Nikon corporate .

Many Nikon devotees are not professionals, even on Nikonians. Nevertheless, they will spend $3,000 plus for the D800 are glad it has video....just in case. All the best.

I love the fact it has video and as I have said on similar threads one of the main reasons I'm buying this camera (that and full-frame capability).

Now if they could only sell it cheaper without that flimsy pop-up flash, I never use that.

I am a video novice and at this moment not interested but see many press people using 5DM2 for video use (as well s still). Also higher MP counts.

Nikon has to include video with higher MP count in competitive price point camera.

There are several threads about this already. Fact of the matter is the buyer base is larger with video. Thus Nikon would have to charge more for a camera without video simply by rules of supply and demand.

Would you be willing to pay a $500 price premium for a model without video? If you doubt this logic, ask yourself why the D800E costs more...

I disagree. You still CAN order whatever you want - but the same options in pre-configured packages ARE naturally cheaper - because installed industrially, not manually.

Absolutely would like a D800 - or similar - without video, in which I have no interest. I have video on the D7000 and four other cameras and never use it!

But wait! There are plenty of full-frame Nikons available without video: FE2, FM2, FM3a, FE, F3, F4, F5, F6, etc.

The money has already been spent by Nikon in development costs for a sensor that can stream data fast enough for video and an image processor that can handle that data. A model without video would not be cheaper to build. Video would simply be disabled in firmware. The only way for the camera to be cheaper would be if Nikon had developed it without video. I would have preferred that, but I don't worry about things that I can't change.

It is possible that even in this case the camera would be more expensive - because the demand could be so much lower that smaller R&D cost should be divided by even smaller amount of cameras. And I personally need no video either, by the way.
