I did not see a ship date in the press release or anywhere else. I didn't have time to look due to being at work all day and now that I am home, I haven't seen it either (although my eyes are tired at the moment).

Shoot nature with respect and don't trample it or startle its inhabitants.

It seems that mid-March 2012 is the ship date.

From the press release, in the U.S. deliveries of the D800 will start late March, deliveries of the D800E will start mid April.

Too bad it is so damn expensive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is anything but "expensive." In fact, it is $500 less than I expected and a $1,000 less than many others expected. It is a great value for what it is.

Well, I am sorry that some people feel it is expensive. I am sure some felt the D700 was expensive. But, "expensive" is a relative term and I have no doubt that Nikon has priced this at a level that it will sell very well and for those who are willing to pay, they are getting a lot for their money. I am very happy with the price.

When you come to buy it will you pay the price that it was first advertised at or will you buy it from a seller that is advertising a price reduction with respect to the original price?

I assume I am paying the 2999.99 price. I have been on Berger Bros. "list" since it was started and I know that I am within the first ten on the list. I have sent Lisa a check for $1000 to secure my order and I haven't even asked her what the price is. But, I assume it is the list price.

I don't think that there are going to be any "deals" on this camera for a good long while.

Completely agree. For what the camera is offering relative to the market, it's a stellar price. literally half the cost of the D4. But just being honest, I feel the D7000 is the biggest bargain in the entire lineup. For $1100, that camera is AMAZING.

This is a very subjective way of putting it? For a lot of the members it will be expensive especially in the current economic crisis. Because the rumours were wrong then it doesn't necessarily make it great value.

I think 2999 is a good price based on what is out there.
I predict it will be 9 months before it is available in retail shelves due to demand . It may actually be underpriced for market .

It is priced the same as the D700 when it was first released. Compare it to the D3X or the D4 and it's a real bargain.
