Playing with the ratios I came up with D800 being 7373ppi by 4900ppi = 36.07 mp

The officially-stated usable area of the D800 sensor in FX mode is 7360 by 4912 pixels.

Welcome to Nikonians Glenn!

The D800 will produce files that are 7360 pixels wide and 4912 pixels high.

Translating that images sizes you get >>

> @ 300 ppi = 24.53" x 16.37" > Standard resolution for sending to a printer.

> @ 100 ppi = 73.6" x 49.1" (that is 6.13 feet x 4.09 feet) >
Approximate size of the image when viewed most computer monitors at 100% magnification.
