"Are you going to purchase or upgrade to D800?"

AU

I've been waiting for the release news for long however it's frustrated to hear that the price in Australia will be around $3700
At the same time, the pre-sale order is Japanese Yen266,999 in Japanese market, but only $2900 in US market!
Australian dollars is even expensive at the moment! what a gap!

I had a great price ($1,600) on a D800 from an online vendor. When I called they tried to get me to buy extra stuff which I expected. Then they claimed the camera was a Japanese version with the manual and all menus in Japanese and that the in camera menus could not be switched to English. Have you ever heard of this?

Its hard for me to believe they were doing a bait and switch because it was so aggravating, I can't imagine anyone actually going for the switch which leaves them with nothing.

Thanks,
Jerry

Were they located in Brooklyn? There are dozens of bait and switchers operating there and several go under dozens of names working out of the same po box, all fake.
If you get a price that is too good to be true, check them out on http://www.resellerratings.com/ Some of their scams are surprising that no police or AG has tried to take them down since they are ripping off people by the millions and closing up shop at the first hint of trouble, only to open the same day with another name. One guy was busted eventually, so his 40 stores shut down. He employees immediately opened a dozen more.

Jerry -- I have bought several cameras in Japan. Tell them, "Moichi do" -- "One more, please" and to ship it for $1600. If it exists, it's no doubt grey market, but (a) you CAN switch languages on Nikons and (b) you can download an English manual from Nikon USA -- or better yet, get Young and Johnson's or Busch's book(s) on the camera. In the end -- the camera probably doesn't exist and is just the bait to get you to buy an added shorty tripod and a lens cleaning outfit for a grand.
