Will the MC-30 remote shutter release fit in the D800 port?

Also, will the EH-5a power supply work with the D800?

Yes, it will; the D800 has a standard 10-pin socket

I don't know what the differences are between the earlier EH-5a and the EH-5b that is listed for the D800. The EN-EL15 battery which powers the D800 differs in both charge and voltage from the EN-EL3e which powered the cameras that used the EH-5a, I'm guessing that the two units are not interchangeable.

Thanks! The b&H listing is somewhat ambiguous on the Mc-30 and so far uninformative on the power supply.

If you check the Nikonusa site, Nikon-products, they are up to date with product compatibility. Look under accessories.

The EH-5A is compatible with quite a few cameras but not the D800. They show the EH-5B which is only compatible with the D800.

I expect you are correct, but it's dangerous to just go by what Nikon websites say - they maintained only the EH-5a, and not the earlier EH-5, was compatible with the D700, whereas in fact either of them works fine

I am sure that the D800 has a voltage regulator to compensate for the different configurations of the battery pack,
and for a full and partial charged battery.

When I attached an external acid battery with slightly higher voltage to my Kodak 760, the camera really came to life.
Not sure about the D800, but the spec performance is already good enough for me.

I still have my EH-5 from my D100 days. It is not even listed in the archived accessories. I wonder where I can find out if it will work on the D800.
