I didn't even think to ask about batteries. My Best Buy didn't have any grips and neither does anyone online. I am going to DIE without a grip on this thing. UGH!

Seams strange that a store that carries cameras as a after thought would even carry a 800. The nicest camera I've seen in there is a d90.

I dont get either how Bestbuy got so many D800's when Camera specialty stores only got a few in ... Henry's in Canada which is a major camera store didnt even get enough D800's to be able to send to every store they have.

Not sure about your store, but my local Best Buy has carried the D7000 (where I bought mine), the D700, 5DMk2, 7D, and they have several "L" and Nikon ED lenses.

I think Nikon has a good relationship with Best Buy simply because they move SO MANY cameras and have such a broad reach. I was surprised to find B.B. was carrying upper end Sandisk cards both CF and SDHC.

Anyway, I"m not complaining. I have two local camera stores. One does not sell cameras at all. The other one I've not been inside since I sold my F4s to them many years ago.

Yes, I agree, thats Nikon's way of marketing or Best Buy trying to
dominate. Id rather support my local camera dealer, but why wait weeks on a camera. I have a trip leaving today . .

I understand for consumer cameras for Best Buy but D800s??? They didn't have the D4 that I know of.

Usually, the Best Buys only have the cameras with kit lenses included. I bought my D90 there when no one else had any. I kept the kit lens for when I sold it a couple of years later, but I really never used the lens.

That's too bad. I've used my kit lens dozens of times and sold many images I was proud of. The 18-105 is a very sharp lens with easy to correct distortion. And it's still the widest lens I own.

By the way, my D800 was purchased body only yesterday at Best Buy.

Start posting some images from your D800!

I went up to my local Best Buy today and they indeed had 3 D800's yesterday that they sold in about 2 hours. I called a couple of others and no dice. They did not get any nor do they know when they will. So it is hit and miss at Best Buy too I guess. I was not thinking that they would have any or I might have been up there yesterday...

LOL! That thing is prepped and zipped up in my camera bag. I have a bikini shoot this afternoon, and 2 sports shoots this weekend, so it will get a workout.

I was pleased to see that it takes the same battery as my D7000, so now I have 2 spare batteries to use while I wait on my grip for the camera.

I am looking forward to the image quality, but NOT looking forward to the pain of holding this thing this weekend.

If we have a choice of which images you post, may I suggest the bikini images? I think that this subject matter might give us some real insight into the resolution and detail capabilities of the D800.

FYI, I am always available for assistant duties too. I am very good at holding up the modesty screens and brushing sand off of models. Its difficult work, but somehow I manage to muddle through these tasks.

DVDMike,

I have a VERY strict rule about camera assistants on bikini shoots. I never take anyone who asks.

And I am sorry to say the bikini shoot was cancelled due to inclement weather. But I'm sure you'll enjoy the sand volleyball photos.
