"WSU Poster That is Wichita State University" Wed 10-Apr-13 01:49 PM by photoman36
Last fall I contacted the marketing group at WSU about doing a panoramic poster of one their home basketball games and was told that I needed to be licensed to do this. So I went through the licensing process and got a really good shot which we, the University and myself, put together a first class poster. I shot the image with the D800 and a Rokinon 14mm lens. I got a sharp copy of this lens. I have the marketing rights to this image and since WSU got to the final 4 this year it has been a good source of income. I thought you all might like to see the finished poster. You can see it by going to my web site. http://www.ronbakerphotos.com

Ron - Splendid result! It captures both the context and the feeling very well. It is indeed great sometimes to see a photographer get rewarded for superior vision and quality results. For the rest of the world -- "Try this with your iPhone!"

I don't comment very often on photos, but this is great work. My three loves in life are family, photography and basketball - in that order. I see a lot of basketball stadium shots and this is top notch. Not surprised it is a huge seller.
p.s. Congratulations to Louisville - team of destiny!

Great shot. Wish I could see a large, full res version. I'm sure it's impressive. One shot with panorama cropping or multiple shots stitched?
How do you like the Rokinon lens? Did you have to go through many copies to get a good one? I need a new super-wide and don't want to pony up for the Nikon 14-24. I'm fine with manual focus in a super-wide angle so the Rokinon is a real possibility.

This is one shot cropped. The iso was 800. On a 72inch print there is some noise in the shadow areas that I lightened to bring out the detail but I didn't want to destroy the detail by removing the noise. So at a normal viewing distance the grain or noise is not objectionable. All I can say about the Rokinon is that it rocks. I believe it will compare with the best Nikon 14-24 or Zeiss 14mm. In my photography career I have worked with some the best wide angles and this I would put up against any of them. It was the first one I received. It does some weird things to the image but PTLens does an excellent job of correcting them and the nice thing is that PTLens is very inexpensive.
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. - Nicomachean Ethics
